The Wasteland is not just full of Deathclaws and Raiders looking to kill everything (and everyone) in sight, you will also encounter domestic animals that can be kept in your vault as pets in Fallout Shelter. They feature unique pet bonuses that boost your progression in several ways. The higher the rarity, the greater the bonus. That includes helping collect resources, increasing income, training stats, leveling dwellers, and more.

You cannot stack pet bonuses in
Fallout Shelter
. If you equip two pets with the same bonuses inside a room or area, only the pet with the highest bonus will be used.

Fallout Shelter features close to four dozen different pets. You get them randomly from pet carriers and while exploring the Wasteland. If the ongoing Fallout television show has convinced you to return to your vault, here are the best pet bonuses to get in Fallout Shelter.

Do not be afraid of sending out dwellers with pets on quests. Even if the dweller dies, the pet will return to your vault unharmed.

Fallout Shelter: 10 Tactics To Help The Vault Colony Survive

Fallout Shelter can really put your skills to the test. Here’s a look at some tips and tactics to help your vault colony survive.

Gaston (Britanny)

26-30 Percent Crafting Time & Cost Bonus

Fallout Shelter - Crafting Time and Cost Pet Bonus

You can find several pets that reduce either crafting times or material costs. Britanny is the only pet that does both. This makes him a good boy and a highly valuable pet in Fallout Shelter.

Crafting legendary weapons can take up to 10 hours on average when you reach the late game. Having this pet bonus saves you from a lot of grind.

Bandit (Australian Shepherd) & Duchess (Turkish Van)

+3 Child SPECIAL Bonus

While you can always train dwellers to level up their SPECIAL stats, having baby dwellers with high SPECIALs is more efficient. The legendary versions of Bandit and Duchess guarantee that your pregnant dwellers always give birth to babies with +3 to a random SPECIAL stat in Fallout Shelter.

The pet bonus is only triggered when equipped with a pregnant dweller. Placing the pet in the Living Quarters will do nothing. This is one of the common mistakes players make in Fallout Shelter.

Bangor (Maine Coon) & Muttface (Black Lab)

26-30 Percent Uninterrupted Training Bonus

Training dwellers to increase their SPECIAL stats is an important gameplay mechanic. It requires constant supervision on your part because they stop training after leveling up a stat. Pets with training bonuses ensure that your dwellers keep leveling up their stat in Fallout Shelter even when you are sleeping. They will only stop once the stat is maxed out.

Furthermore, Muttface and Bangor help dwellers train faster. That makes two pet bonuses packed into one. You also get to bring Muttface to your vault, who is another memorable character from the Fallout franchise. You can find him protective of everyone at Little Lamplight in Fallout 3.

Scavver (Boxer) & Ginger (Scottish Fold)

36-45 Percent XP Bonus

Once dwellers have maxed out their SPECIALs, give them a legendary Boxer or Scottish Fold pet to level up fast in Fallout Shelter. The maximum level cap is 50, so it will take time, even with the pet bonuses. However, a couple with high levels and SPECIALs have an increased chance of producing legendary babies.

Cocoa Bean (German Pointer) & Trench (Husky)

x4 Wasteland Return Speed Bonus

Once your dwellers have found good weapons and outfits, it is time to have them explore the Wasteland in Fallout Shelter. They will always bring back valuable items to help expand the vault. Questing, however, takes a lot of days to complete, which can be significantly reduced by sending out dwellers with either Cocoa Bean or Trench.

The faster return time bonus ensures a better reward turn-around rate, which naturally makes these canines the best pets to keep in Fallout Shelter.

Make sure to read the pet descriptions. Mr. Peepers looks exactly like Cocoa Bean but has a different pet bonus.
Cocoa Bean can only be unlocked through the Saving Daylight quest
.

Dogmeat (German Shepherd) & Pip (Vault-Tec Parrot)

x3 Objective Completion Bonus

Completing objectives is one of the fastest ways of expanding your vault in Fallout Shelter because they reward you with bottle caps, lunchboxes, pet carriers, and Mistery Handy.

The Overseer will always have up to three objectives daily, which range from collecting and crafting items and resources, exploring locations, delivering babies, killing creatures, etc. Most of them take days to complete. Having pets with objective completion bonuses lets you complete all objectives faster for a steady supply of rewards.

For example, if you need to kill 30 creatures in the Wasteland, having a pet with a x3 completion bonus will count each kill three times. That means you have to only kill 10 creatures, not 30. Do note that the “objective completion bonus” does not mean increasing your objective rewards.

The pet needs to be in the room or on the dweller to trigger the objective completion bonus.

Being able to complete hard objectives such as killing Deathclaws without a weapon is what makes this one of the best pet bonuses in Fallout Shelter. Not to mention that you get to have Dogmeat, the perceptive pooch companion from Fallout 4, running around your vault.
