How to Find the Mysterious Stranger in Fallout Shelter

In Fallout Shelter, the Mysterious Stranger will spawn in a random room or elevator within your Vault at timed intervals of at least ten minutes – as long as all rooms in your Vault are powered. The Mysterious Stranger will appear and disappear with a puff of smoke, and play a sound when he spawns in, which is your first queue to react. By finding and tapping the Mysterious Stranger before he vanishes, you will then be rewarded with a small boost of Caps.

However, many players seem to find that once their Vault has become a much larger size, scrolling through all of the rooms to find and click on the Mysterious Stranger in time has become much more difficult. Luckily, there are a few different tips and tricks that you can use to help yourself find the Mysterious Stranger around your Fallout Shelter Vault, both on mobile and PC.

Tips For Finding Mysterious Stranger on Mobile

  • Turn off the HD Zoom feature to make the Mysterious Stranger easier to spot.
  • If you are zoomed in to one of the rooms in your Vault, the closer the Mysterious Stranger spawns to you, the louder the noise will be, giving an indicator of how far you may need to zoom out to spot him in time.
  • Once you hear the Mysterious Stranger’s sound effect, quickly zoom out the entire way. Doing so will stop all animations, making your Vault Dwellers much easier to identify and, therefore, making the Mysterious Stranger easier to find as he tends to stick out.
  • If you can’t immediately find the Mysterious Stranger within the first couple of seconds, then enter the app switcher mode to suspend Fallout Shelter. This will pause the game, leaving the Mysterious Stranger for you to find in your own time, using Accessibility Settings to zoom in as needed. Lastly, after finding where he is, go back into your Fallout Shelter app, and quickly move to the known location of the Mysterious Stranger to claim your reward.

Tips For Finding Mysterious Stranger on PC

  • By default, the noise that indicates the arrival of the Mysterious Stranger is played in stereo, meaning that if you’re using headphones, you should be able to tell which side of the Vault he has appeared on, pointing you in a more specific direction to search.
  • If you are zoomed in to one of the rooms in your Vault, the closer the Mysterious Stranger spawns to you, the louder the noise will be, giving an indicator of how far you may need to zoom out to spot him in time.
