Some longtime Fallout: New Vegas players have taken to playing dirty tricks on fans of the streaming television series by trying to trick them into wandering into high-danger areas unprepared. Specifically, they’ve been goading unsuspecting new Fallout: New Vegas players into venturing into a massive deathclaw den and straight into the line of mortar fire with the false promise of high-level loot and no enemies.
Fallout: New Vegas became a beloved part of Fallout canon when it launched back in 2010, and it still holds a 96% approval rating on Steam. Although Bethesda acquired the franchise between Fallout 2 and Fallout 3, New Vegas put narrative control of the series back into the hands of some of the people who created it, though now updated to run in a first-person view. Lately, however, the Fallout streaming series on Amazon Prime has fans flocking to the game once more, so much so that the popularity of New Vegas is straining the servers at Nexus Mods.
New Vegas Director Has Interesting Take On Fallout TV Series
The director behind the fan-favorite Fallout entry, New Vegas, shared his thoughts on Amazon’s recently released Fallout TV series.
It’s fair to assume that many of these players are new to the Fallout games and have started playing them after falling in love with the TV series. That seems to be the assumption of at least two Reddit users, who have made similar posts encouraging new players to venture into Nellis Air Force Base and Quarry Junction. Nellis is home to the explosive-loving Boomers faction, and while the enemies there can be quite dangerous for players who draw their ire, player deaths are common even in the open field before reaching the base due to its high concentration of mortar fire. Quarry Junction, on the other hand, is swarming with one of the series’ toughest enemies: the deathclaws that have plagued the Fallout franchise since its beginning.
Attempts to Trick First-Time Fallout: New Vegas Players
The post regarding Quarry Junction, made by Reddit user PartySecretary_Waldo, is aimed at players looking for good starting gear and makes the false promise of 300 stimpacks. Likewise, the post about Nellis, by Reddit user Cifeiron, falsely tells players to ignore the NPC who warns them about the base’s dangers, claiming that the area is highly irradiated but devoid of enemies. That second post does accurately state that there’s a great unique weapon at Nellis, and while it’s falsely presented as a 155mm gun instead of a grenade launcher, the Thump Thump that can be found there is one of New Vegas‘ best explosive weapons.
Hopefully, new players won’t be put off by the false rumors that have been surfacing. New Vegas has reached record peak player counts after the TV series’ debut, and new signs of life for a 13-year-old game show that there’s plenty of interest in seeing what else the Fallout franchise has to offer.
