- Fans are excited about the potential for a Pokemon Legends sequel set in the Johto region, with many sharing their own Johto-themed creature designs.
- Speculation and rumors about upcoming games in the Pokemon franchise returning to fan-favorite regions like Johto and Unova are widespread.
- The possibility of a new Pokemon Legends game set in Johto could introduce new alternate forms for popular Gen 2 Pokemon, similar to Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
Many fans of the Pokemon franchise are excited about a potential sequel to Pokemon Legends: Arceus, with one artistic fan of the series designing their own Forretress variant which they envision would fit well into a potential Pokemon Legends game in the future. Many fans have recently began sharing similar creature designs of their own themed around the Johto region itself, as popular rumors have left many fans of the franchise hopeful that a new Pokemon game set in the Johto region will be announced in the near future.
Such rumors have been quite widespread throughout recent months, with many fans left speculating that some of the next games in the Pokemon franchise will take players back to the fan-favorite Johto and Unova regions seen in past generations. Enthusiasts of Pokemon Legends: Arceus are also hopeful that a game revisiting the Johto region could come in the form of a new Pokemon Legends game, which would grant a whole new perspective on this classic location and potentially dig deeper into the lore introduced in the original Gen 2 games. Like with Pokemon Legends: Arceus, a new Johto-based game could potentially introduce a variety of new alternate forms for popular Gen 2 Pokemon as well.
A New Pokemon Legends Game Should Break a Major Franchise Tradition
If Pokemon Legends becomes a true series, it could continue to surprise fans by breaking away from an essential part of the Pokemon franchise.
Forretress Legends Form
With this in mind, many creative fans have taken matters into their own hands by sharing a plethora of Johto and Hisui-inspired Pokemon designs of their own. One fan known online as JJonnie has shown off one design featuring what they think a new Forretress form could look like in a new Pokemon Legends title. This variant flaunts a Grass and Bug-typing rather than the original Forretress’ Bug and Steel-type, and while the removal of its Steel-type would likely leave it more vulnerable in practice, it does pave the way for an entirely different stat distribution and even the possibility of unique new moves. The Pokemon’s adorable conceptual design clearly takes inspiration from traditional Johto architecture.
Though Pokemon Legends: Arceus‘ Hisui region featured a considerably different ecosystem of Pokemon compared to the Sinnoh region of the modern age, Legends: Arceus did include a few new evolutions and new forms for existing Pokemon seen throughout the series. Though the original Gold and Silver games were responsible for introducing many Pokemon that have remained popular across the decades such as Espeon and Steelix, a potential new Pokemon Legends game could feature new forms for more recent Pokemon as well.
While it’s still not certain what lies ahead for the Pokemon franchise, rumors of new titles and possible remakes of the Pokemon Black and White games has left plenty of solid possibilities on the table of what to expect in 2024. The viability of the many circulating rumors will soon be seen though, as fans have only a few weeks to wait until Pokemon Day when the next big game announcements are expected to be made.
