A Far Cry 5 player has recreated a Far Cry 2-inspired environment using the game’s Arcade Mode. Map editors in the Far Cry franchise are nothing new, and they offer players a way to experiment with the sandbox. However, the map editor in Far Cry 5, which launched in 2018, received a significant upgrade, giving players access to assets from various Ubisoft franchises, including the previous Far Cry titles, Assassin’s Creed, and Watch Dogs. In Arcade Mode, players have complete control over a number of features, including the audio and terrain of the maps, which they can also share with friends.
With such a highly comprehensive tool at their fingertips, players have been using Arcade Mode to recreate maps and even environments from some of their favorite titles, and so it was only a matter of time before Far Cry 2 received the same treatment. Fans believe Far Cry 2 needs a remake for several reasons, including the nearly unforgiving survival mechanics that made it challenging and realistic. Since there hasn’t been any indication from Ubisoft of a remake happening, some fans have taken the matter into their own hands.
Pokemon Fan Recreates Pallet Town in Far Cry 5
A Pokemon fan shares screenshot of their reimagining of the popular town from the Pokemon universe by recreating it with Far Cry Arcade.
A YouTuber going by the handle Mojo Swoptops took to Reddit to share a screenshot of a Far Cry 2-inspired environment using the Arcade Mode of Far Cry 5. The screenshot showcases an encampment surrounded by rocky cliffs with some houses in the far distance. This encampment is just below a cave, which was revealed in a video set to a track from the Far Cry 2 soundtrack that Mojo Swoptops posted to YouTube to give fans a closer look. The video shows the player character exiting the cave and proceeding to stealthily take out some of the enemies before engaging in a gunfight with various Far Cry weapons to clear the enemy base.
A Next-Gen Look at Far Cry 2
According to Mojo Swoptops, they did this as a concept mockup so that fans could see what a potential next-generation version of Far Cry 2 would look like. Their post was well received on Reddit, with other users becoming nostalgic for Far Cry 2. Some, in particular, recalled a Far Cry trope that is not used in the games anymore, where the player must take a pill every so often in order to avoid getting malaria, while others praised the enemy AI and sandbox.
This Far Cry 2 recreation is not the first time Mojo Swoptops has used the Arcade Editor in Far Cry 5 to make environments from well-loved games. Previously, they also worked on Shipment, a widely popular Call of Duty multiplayer map, as well as Goodsprings from Fallout: New Vegas. While there has been no news about Far Cry 7 beyond rumors, many fans are hoping for the new title to have a map editor when it ships, as Far Cry 6 did not.
