To commemorate the release of Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, Square Enix collaborated with the Xbox Design Lab to show off a Standard and an Elite controller design based respectively on the Pictomancer and the Viper. These controllers were shared by Final Fantasy 14 on social media, with further customizations available in the Xbox Design Lab for players to consider.

As the fifth expansion of Square Enix’s critically acclaimed MMORPG, Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail is the start of a new chapter for the game. Between a major graphical update and the new Viper and Pictomancer Jobs, Dawntrail also looked to escape the reputation that the launch of Endwalker had, which was marred by long queue times. Although Dawntrail‘s queues have been short compared to its predecessor, the expansion also had some noteworthy bugs and issues to fix. Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida apologized for Dawntrail‘s bugs and stated the development team would address all lingering issues.

A Final Fantasy 14 bug causes certain player characters to behave strangely when they perform an emote that makes them take a bite of pizza.

With Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail‘s full release, Square Enix teamed up with Xbox to mark the occasion. On Final Fantasy 14‘s official Twitter page, Square Enix shared a picture of two controllers created in the Xbox Design Lab that players can purchase and customize to their liking. Both controllers were designed after the Viper and the Pictomancer, with the latter on a standard Xbox Wireless Controller. The artistic design of the Pictomancer was reflected in a Dream Vapor controller with a pastel pink D-Pad, light blue sticks, and purple bumpers and triggers. The Pictomancer controller is available starting at $79.98 on the Xbox Design Lab, but fans can add more options like rubberized grips for an extra fee.

Final Fantasy 14 Shares Viper and Pictomancer Controllers In Xbox Design Lab

Given that the Viper is the poster Job of Dawntrail, Square Enix shared an Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 design based on its long brown coat. The controller was covered in shades of garnet, black, silver, and dark green, and featured rubberized grips on the back and sides. The Viper-inspired Elite Series 2 controller starts at $149.99, nearly twice the price of the Pictomancer controller. These designs will continue to be available in the Xbox Design Lab normally, and the controllers will work on both the PC and the Xbox Series X/S versions of Final Fantasy 14.

As players progress through the main story of Dawntrail, Final Fantasy 14 is off to a fast start in promoting the new expansion. Only time will tell what Square Enix will do to keep the momentum going.
