  • Square Enix is working on a high priority fix and urges players to avoid abusing the exploit.

Final Fantasy 14 has confirmed that a crucial fix that aims to resolve a boss battle-related exploit is on the way. The issue was introduced in a recently released patch for Final Fantasy 14.

On July 2, Patch 7.0 brought Dawntrail, a new paid DLC for Final Fantasy 14, into the equation. The update consists of a slew of new additions, such as a unique storyline, playable female Hrothgars, jobs like the Pictomancer, and locations like Tuliyollal, among other things. Dawntrail is the fifth expansion for the MMORPG and is available across PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Unfortunately, besides the DLC, the latest patch also added an exploit to the game, which the devs are currently investigating.

Final Fantasy 14 developer Square Enix has released a notice, revealing that it is aware of a significant exploit in the latest patch and is actively working to roll out a fix for it. As mentioned in the announcement, the issue is present in one of the trials available in the Final Fantasy 14‘s Dawntrail update. Apparently, the player is supposed to receive a debuff when hit with the boss’s Projection of Turmoil action during this particular trial. However, the debuff is claimed to be not activating properly and disappearing when the effect time runs out without causing the intended impact on the player.

Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Exploit Fix is in the Works

The recently identified exploit has led to players being able to complete the affected trial without breaking a sweat. Acknowledging the unfair advantage it brings, the developer urged fans to “refrain” from making the exploit count towards their Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail progress. Due to the issue’s critical nature, Square Enix stated that it was working to resolve everything at the “highest priority.” It added that, once the fix is ready, it will be delivered to the game’s public servers at the earliest opportunity.

As it turns out, this isn’t the first major issue that Square Enix devs have run into since players started diving into the world of Dawntrail some time ago. In fact, earlier this week, Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida had to come to the fore and apologize to players himself for the various technical hiccups in the game. However, that was still the early access version of the game and not the final work. Given the continuous flurry of issues, it seems the developer has its hands full right now, making it worth waiting and looking forward to future patches for the online title.
