Final Fantasy 14 players can now gift more Online Store cosmetics to their friends, as Square Enix removes restrictions on most items nearly four years after disabling them. Previously, Final Fantasy 14 took steps to counter real-money trading (RMT) on specific Online Store items, which resulted in some limitations on the items that players could offer to someone.

Periodically, Final Fantasy 14 releases new cosmetics on the Online Store as optional items that players can buy with real money. These items range from costumes that can be used as glamour to mounts, minions, and housing decorations. These items can also extend to minions and outfits from other Final Fantasy games, with the Battlefield Rose’s Attire and the Humble Attire serving as respective homages to Beatrix and Garnet from Final Fantasy 9. Despite some of the offers available, some Final Fantasy 14 Online Store items have drawn criticism from fans, with prices being a frequent point of contention.

Final Fantasy 14 Removes Some Restrictions on Online Store Gift Options

As of April 2, more Final Fantasy 14 Online Store items are now available to be gifted to friends. Square Enix confirmed via a post on The Lodestone that more optional items can now be purchased and sent to an in-game friend via the “Buy For A Friend” option on the FF14 Online Store page. The expanded list now allows Mounts and Minions that can be redeemed on a single character, along with Emotes, Chocobo Barding, Face Paint, Orchestrion Rolls, and Fashion Accessories. Ergo, Final Fantasy 14 players can now gift specific seasonal items to their friends, such as items from past iterations of the Hatching-Tide event. Previously, the list of eligible items was restricted to Weapons, Costumes, Fantasia Potions, Dyes, Hairstyles, and Tales of Adventure books.

New Final Fantasy 14 Online Store Items Eligible for Gifting (Effective April 2, 2026)

  • Mounts (Single Character)
  • Minions (Single Character)
  • Emotes
  • Orchestrion Rolls
  • Face Paint
  • Chocobo Barding
  • Fashion Accessories

However, Account-Wide Mounts are currently ineligible as gift options. The Online Store restrictions were implemented weeks after Final Fantasy 14 launched Patch 6.2, Buried Memory, during the Endwalker expansion. Square Enix stated via an October 2022 Lodestone post that the restrictions on Online Store goods were done as a way to combat fraudulent purchases and discourage RMT. Before October 2022, Final Fantasy 14‘s Online Store instead distributed the items as codes that could be redeemed by any player. While this made gifting items convenient for most Final Fantasy 14 players, it also allowed third-party storefronts to sell these item codes at different prices than the Online Store. Additionally, Square Enix claimed that some of these item codes were fraudulently bought using stolen credit card information. Currently, Final Fantasy 14 Online Store items can only be used by the original buyer or sent to a friend via in-game mail.

Final Fantasy 14 players can have up to 200 friends per character on their friends list, which can fill up quickly. Additionally, Final Fantasy 14 players must have been on each other’s friends lists for at least three real-world days before they are eligible as a “Buy For A Friend” choice on the Online Store.
