Final Fantasy 14 has much to look forward to in the coming months, and for fans of the wider Final Fantasy franchise, there’s even more exciting news. During the latest Tokyo Fan Festival, Square Enix shared new artwork and details about “Beyond the Lifestream,” an upcoming raid crossover with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. With Evercold launching on February 23 and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation arriving on April 8, 2027, the collaboration couldn’t come at a better time. Beyond the excitement of revisiting one of the franchise’s most beloved worlds, the crossover also offers a fitting celebration of Final Fantasy 7 as its remake trilogy approaches its conclusion.
Part of the appeal is seeing how Final Fantasy 14 reinterprets a world that has had such a lasting influence on the series. Of course, Final Fantasy 7 has remained a fan favorite for decades, and the Remake project has given its characters, locations, and story a new identity for both longtime fans and newcomers. With anticipation already building for the remake trilogy’s final chapter, the crossover could give fans another reason to revisit its world while keeping both releases firmly in the spotlight.
Beyond the Lifestream Is Bringing Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Final Fantasy 14
The first thing worth looking at here is what makes “Beyond the Lifestream” such an exciting addition to Final Fantasy 14. Announced during the Berlin Fan Festival in July 2026, the upcoming eight-player raid series will bring the world of Final Fantasy 7 Remake into the MMO as part of the Evercold expansion. Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida revealed the collaboration alongside Final Fantasy 7 Remake series director Noaki Hamaguchi, confirming that both development teams are working closely to create a new raid experience.

The collaboration received further spotlight at the Tokyo Fan Festival on October 31, when Square Enix revealed a new piece of artwork created by Tetsuya Nomura, Creative Director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. Though Square Enix still hasn’t revealed the raid’s full story, it’s clear that Nomura’s involvement is significant given his longstanding connection to Final Fantasy 7. With both development teams having an opportunity to bring their creative approaches together, it gives fans something to look forward to beyond the already familiar characters and locations.
Evercold Is a Major New Chapter for Final Fantasy 14
While “Beyond the Lifestream” is obviously an exciting crossover in its own right, it’s also worth looking at the bigger picture of what Evercold brings to Final Fantasy 14. As the MMO’s sixth major expansion, Evercold kicks off a new story arc titled the Godless Realms Saga, taking the Warrior of Light to the Fourth for a new adventure. Originally scheduled for January 2027, the expansion was given a February 23 release date during the Tokyo Fan Festival, with early access scheduled to begin on February 19.
The expansion introduces two new jobs: Bastion, a tank that fights with a pair of greatshields, and Zephyr, a physical ranged DPS job that combines crossbow attacks with support from an avian familiar called Nephele.
Evercold shows that Square Enix is introducing substantial changes to combat, including Reborn and Evolved modes. Alongside a level cap increase from 100 to 110, there will also be new locations, dungeons, trials, and raid content. The Evolved mode is especially noteworthy because it places greater emphasis on individual job identities, with the two new jobs exclusive to this combat mode. This represents an opportunity for Final Fantasy 14 to refresh its gameplay, and with “Beyond the Lifestream” part of a much larger content release, this gives the crossover a stronger foundation than just a standalone promotional event.
Final Fantasy 14 Reveals New Beyond the Lifestream Artwork at Tokyo Fan Festival
The Tokyo Fan Festival on October 31 gave fans another reason to get excited, too, with Square Enix unveiling a new piece of artwork created by Tetsuya Nomura. As the Creative Director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, Nomura’s involvement is fitting for a collaboration that brings two major parts of the franchise together. The artwork features Cloud Strife against the backdrop of Midgar, with the industrial cityscape and its familiar architecture giving the crossover an unmistakable Final Fantasy 7 identity. It offers a glimpse of how the two worlds could come together, even as Square Enix keeps the raid’s story and encounters under wraps.
The reveal also came with an important gameplay update: Evercold will introduce a new raid difficulty called Fierce, positioned between Normal and Savage. The Fierce difficulty setting makes “Beyond the Lifestream” more accessible to players who want a greater challenge without committing to savage-level encounters. Square Enix has also outlined the raid’s rollout, with its first tier arriving in Patch 8.01 and Savage difficulty following in Patch 8.05.
As fans wait for more concrete details about the crossover’s story and encounters, Nomura’s new artwork is one of the most interesting things to come out of the Tokyo event. With Final Fantasy 7 also approaching its 30th anniversary in 2027, and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation set to conclude the remake trilogy in Spring 2027, “Beyond the Lifestream” has an opportunity to celebrate the original game’s legacy while giving Final Fantasy 14 players something new to look forward to.
