Square Enix has officially announced Final Fantasy 9: Reclusion, a brand-new release that series fans won’t have to wait long for. This new Final Fantasy 9 release comes as a surprise, and it’s one that long-time fans will definitely be interested in getting their hands on.
Final Fantasy 9 was originally released in 2000 and was quickly hailed as an RPG masterpiece by fans and critics alike. For many, it stands as a shining example of what a JRPG can be, and holds up extremely well over 26 years later. Unlike FF7, another of the series’ most lauded efforts, FF9 has never received a full remake from Square Enix, with a 2016 remaster as the closest thing.
Final Fantasy 9: Reclusion Releases in October 2026
Square Enix has officially opened pre-orders for a new Final Fantasy 9 jigsaw puzzle named Reclusion. This large, 1,000-piece puzzle was made to commemorate FF9‘s 25th anniversary, which it passed last year. Despite missing the anniversary by a year, Final Fantasy 9: Reclusion is still just a pre-order release and is expected to launch this month (October 2026). It’s priced at a reasonable £32.99 ($39.99), which isn’t bad at all for a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle.
Who’s That Character?

Identify the silhouettes before time runs out.
The jigsaw itself depicts FF9 antagonist Kuja in a stunning piece of artwork. Kuja is often regarded as one of the best Final Fantasy villains from the entire series, so this jigsaw puzzle is a really cool tribute to the character. Kuja is shown standing alongside the Silver Dragon within the Lifa Tree, giving Final Fantasy 9 fans something fresh to enjoy.
When it comes to official Final Fantasy merch, FF9 is one of Square Enix’s most popular games. It makes sense that one of the more popular entries would receive more merch and attention from the developer. What’s so cool is that none of the merch seems phoned in, staying thematically relevant to the game itself. One example is the Final Fantasy 9: Not Alone music box, which plays the track of the same name from the original soundtrack.
It remains to be seen whether Square Enix will ever produce a full Final Fantasy 9 remake in the same vein as FF7. Rumors from earlier this year suggested that a Final Fantasy 9 remake was in development, but was halted by the developer for an unknown reason. It would definitely be massively popular, if Square Enix wanted to take that route.
