A Final Fantasy fan created three amazing canvas paintings of the Summons Leviathan, Phoenix, and Diabolos in just one week, sharing their finished handiwork on social media. The Final Fantasy painter quickly received tons of compliments from fans of the franchise, with many eager to point out their shared interest in the eighth mainline entry in the series.

A recurring element of the Final Fantasy series, Summons are powerful entities that are also known as Espers, Primals, or Eikons, depending on the game. In most Final Fantasy titles, Summons can be called upon to deal heavy damage to enemies, or appear as bosses for players to challenge. Most of these entities also correspond to common elements like water, fire, and wind, while some more underrated Final Fantasy Summons use powers such as gravity to turn the tide of battle. While the Final Fantasy series has typically had one Summon per element throughout its various entries, some games, like Final Fantasy 16, subvert this rule, as both the agile Phoenix and the monstrous Ifrit correspond to the element of fire.

Final Fantasy 16 Has a Message for Fans

To commemorate the game’s first anniversary, Final Fantasy 16 main director Hiroshi Takai shares an important message with fans.

With their paintbrush and three canvases ready, one Final Fantasy fan paid tribute to the Summons from Final Fantasy 8, their favorite entry in the series. Reddit user Serena22 painted the Summons Leviathan, Phoenix, and Diabolos over one week, sharing a picture of all three finished works on the r/gaming subreddit. In Final Fantasy 8, Summons are called Guardian Forces, or GFs, and are relevant to the game’s story and the experimental Junction system. In each painting, Serena22 put each Summon in an environment that made their unique forms stand out. Leviathan emerges from a moonlit sea, while Phoenix rises to greet the dawn of a new day. As for Diabolos, the demonic entity appeared on a nightmarish, green background to contrast its dark form.

The Diabolos painting is also framed, while the Phoenix and Leviathan canvases stand nearby. Amazed by the level of detail, other Final Fantasy fans quickly praised Serena22 for their handiwork and shared fond memories of Final Fantasy 8. Serena22 stated that the paintings were a lot of work, but they enjoyed creating them, adding that they would like to finish working on other Guardian Forces from FF8 before moving on to painting Final Fantasy 7‘s Summons and some of their favorite Espers from Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age.

Despite Final Fantasy 8 being a 25-year-old entry in the series, that has not stopped fans like Serena22 from continuing to pay tribute. Fans fond of the Redditor’s work are eager to see what they paint next.
