IO Interactive has officially released the first 13 minutes of the upcoming 007: First Light, showing off gameplay and establishing the game’s story. The early gameplay of 007: First Light shows off the game’s chaotic start and stealth segments featuring a young James Bond.

The newest game based on the iconic international secret agent gives fans a peek at a much younger Bond than in the movies. The story of 007: First Light follows James Bond not long after joining MI6, framed as an origin story that will see him earn his 00 title. First Light will also mark a long-awaited return of the James Bond franchise to video games, which hasn’t had a wholly new game since 007 Legends in 2012. Now, a few days before its release, IO Interactive is officially giving fans a look at the opening moments of 007: First Light.

James Bond’s newest video game adventure has already sparked plenty of excitement from fans ahead of its release. 007: First Light will feature a unique Instinct mechanic that leverages Bond’s trademark wiles and wit to get out of sticky situations. IO Interactive also confirmed that First Light will not feature a New Game Plus mode, instead offering a variety of Tactical Challenges, granting players greater freedom in how they tackle different missions. Fans have also been given an early idea of the length of First Light‘s main story, with finishing the main story taking about 20 hours.

Early fan interest in 007: First Light looks to bode particularly well for the future of the Bond franchise’s video game adaptations. While the game will initially launch only on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, IO Interactive has confirmed that First Light will be coming to Switch 2 before the end of 2026. IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has also stated that the developer is open to making a sequel to First Light in the future, if the first game performs well enough to justify a sequel.

More than marking a return to video games, First Light represents a major change for the series. 007: First Light‘s portrayal of a younger James Bond marks a major departure from the franchise’s classic formula, creating an entirely new version of the character not directly based on the Fleming novels. First Light also features a completely new villain never seen before in any previous Bond properties, alongside re-imagined versions of iconic supporting characters like M and Miss Moneypenny. 007: First Light looks to usher in a new age for James Bond, and one that fans should be excited to see.
