The Elder Scrolls franchise is getting a new mount that’s the first of its kind. The Elder Scrolls Online has been traversing a rough patch lately due to the Microsoft and Xbox layoffs affecting a reportedly big chunk of the team at ZeniMax Online Studios, ZOS for short. The company is going through some restructuring, with the hyped class reworks for the Warden being moved to early 2027 as opposed to the next patch, Update 51. Some things are already changing, such as TESO‘s Crown Store showcase posts now being thinner.
Recently, as a consequence of the layoffs and restructuring, ZeniMax released a statement about The Elder Scrolls Online, announcing that the game is still being actively worked on for current and future content, including a roadmap for what to expect in the coming months. TESO Game Director Nick Giacomini also stated that ZOS will be working more closely with Bethesda, as the company is supposedly helping out with the coming content. Currently, the game is enjoying a time-limited event that grants players a shower of rewards when partaking in Battlegrounds and Cyrodiil activities. Today, a new release for TESO is making history.
Today, August 6, marks the release date for a unique new mount called Warparty Timber Mammoth for The Elder Scrolls Online that allows up to four players to use it — one driver (the owner) and three passengers, as detailed on the official August 2026 Crown Store showcase. The mount is now available in the official in-game Crown Store. This is particularly interesting because some endgame pieces of content allow mounts to be used, but more importantly, TESO is introducing mounted combat in 2027. In fact, the recently delayed Crimson Veldt 12-player trial coming in 2027 will have the first-ever mounted combat mechanics, though nothing has been revealed so far. If multiplayer mounts are allowed for mounted combat, the Warparty Timber Mammoth could be much more than a utility new release for The Elder Scrolls, as the passengers could focus on the mechanics while the driver controls the mount.

This is a first for The Elder Scrolls franchise as a whole, too. Despite the jarring number of mods available for Skyrim, there is no way to support multiple players on a single mount, and even separate mounts can sometimes cause syncing issues. This is because Skyrim multiplayer mods exist, but the game is natively single-player. As such, The Elder Scrolls Online‘s new Warparty Timber Mammoth is a very interesting first for the game and the series as a whole, and it could come in very handy.
It’s also worth noting that mounts in The Elder Scrolls Online follow a per-character training method to increase their speed, stamina, and carry capacity. If the driver of the Warparty Timber Mammoth has maxed these out, the new mount can quite literally carry everyone else (but up to four players) with slower mounts and lower stamina, which determines how long the mount can run before recovering.
With the Xbox layoffs at Bethesda and ZeniMax Online Studios, the scope of new TESO releases may be smaller, but luckily, the game was already moving in this direction with Seasons over full-fledged Expansions and Chapters. Season One is underway, focusing on the Thieves Guild, and Season Two will presumably launch sometime this Fall.
