Without much warning or fanfare, World’s End Club has made the jump onto Xbox consoles after spending years as a Nintendo Switch console exclusive. Developed by Japanese studio Too Kyo Games, World’s End Club was announced with the creation of the studio and serves as their second title released, following the interactive film adventure game Death Come True.

Too Kyo Games was founded in 2017 by a team of industry veterans. Along with tenured composer Masafumi Takada and artist Rui Komatsuzaki, founding members of the studio include designer and writer Kazutaka Kodaka, best known for the hit strategy series Danganrompa, and Zero Escape creator Kotaro Uchikoshi. Along with a handful of games released, the studio has also co-produced anime projects such as Akudama Drive and Tribe Nine. Too Kyo Games’ next scheduled release is Danganrompa 2 x 2, a remake of the original Danganrompa 2: Goodbye Despair featuring an all-new narrative.

Former Nintendo Switch Console Exclusive Launches on Xbox Consoles Out Of Nowhere

After years as a Nintendo Switch console exclusive, World’s End Club has unexpectedly made the leap to Microsoft’s Xbox family of consoles, quietly launching on Xbox One, Series S and Series X on February 9. Initially released in September 2020 as an Apple Arcade title on iOS devices, World’s End Club made the jump to Nintendo’s hybrid handheld console in May 2021, with a Windows version launching in November of the same year. The game would remain a console exclusive for nearly five years before making the jump to PlayStation 5 on July 13, 2025. Now, Xbox players can finally get their hands on the game as well.

Set in 1995, World’s End Club is a unique take on the visual novel genre that follows Reycho, a young student and the newest member of a group of friends known as the Go-Getters Club. After surviving a catastrophic meteor strike that interrupts the group’s Tokyo field trip, Reycho and friends wake up in a mysterious amusement park, where they’re greeted by Pielope, a mischievous, jester-like robot. Pielope forces the group of kids to participate in a Game of Fate, a series of life-threatening challenges that they must overcome to make it back home to Tokyo.

The initial premise of World’s End Club may feel familiar to players of the creator’s previous works. The game begins with a concept that’s similar to visual novels like the Zero Escape series, AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES, and 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, but it quickly expands greatly on this concept. Players will guide Reysho and his friends as they set out to search for survivors and uncover the mystery of the meteor strike, along with its effect on the world as a whole. Much of the game’s gameplay blends aspects of visual novels, puzzle games and platformers. Players will take on enemies and solve puzzles using the special abilities of each party member. Between adventures, the group will set up camp, allowing Reycho to interact and bond with his new friends.

A collaboration between some of gaming’s most creative storytellers, World’s End Club is an ambitious visual novel that brings unexpected gameplay styles into the mix for a truly unique experience. While the game’s critical reception has been mixed, fans of the genre have praised its charming and well-rounded cast of characters, along with its narrative theme of finding hope in the midst of tragedy. Experimental titles like World’s End Club do not come around often, and with its surprise release on Xbox consoles, the game has an opportunity to find a brand-new audience.
