Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will have at least four playable characters with different play styles and stories that players can experience once the game arrives on Switch 2 on September 17. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will be the eighteenth mainline entry in Nintendo’s fan-favorite strategy RPG franchise.
The story of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave centers around the Dagdan Empire, home of the Heroic Games combat tournament. Players can experience the story of one of four heroes, named Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda, as they seek to win the Heroic Games and have a wish granted. Given that Sothis from Fire Emblem: Three Houses is also in Fortune’s Weave, it remains to be seen how the two Fire Emblem games will tie together from a narrative standpoint.
Nintendo Shares More Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Details
During the August 4 Nintendo Direct dedicated to Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, new details about the game’s overarching plot were revealed. Five years after the Heroic Games, the demonic entity Balor brings the empire to its knees. The four heroes that took part in the Heroic Games also seemingly vanished. Nintendo confirmed during the Direct broadcast that Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave players will assume the role of a yet-unnamed Protagonist with white hair and a long white cloak. Under the guidance of Fortuna, the God of Causality, the Protagonist travels back in time to aid Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, or Leda in the Heroic Games and save the future from its grim fate.

Each playable hero also has signature Blaze Arts that can be used to turn the tide of battle, though this comes at the cost of some HP. For example, Dietrich can use Moving Shadow to warp three spaces, allowing him to bypass obstacles and immediately attack. Additionally, players will have a limited time within each in-game day to decide how to prepare for the Heroic Games. Players can recruit allies to each hero’s side and can gain experience by venturing throughout the game’s world map. The outcome of the main story will depend on which hero Fortune’s Weave players choose to help out, though different paths can be taken for each hero. Drawing inspiration from how Fire Emblem: Three Houses handled its narrative, Fortune’s Weave players can experience each hero’s tale in a parallel fashion.
While Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will have traditional digital and physical releases, the game will also have a pricey collector’s bundle for users to purchase. The Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Dagdan Collection is currently available for pre-purchase at the Nintendo Store for $119.99. The bundle includes Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave on a physical Switch 2 Game Card, a steelbook game case, an art book, some art cards, and a map of Dagda. As of this writing, pre-orders for the Dagdan Collection were still up on the Nintendo Store, though quantities are expected to be limited.
Despite the high price tag that Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will carry, the upcoming title from Nintendo and Intelligent Systems is one of the most-anticipated Switch 2 exclusives of 2026 so far. Time will tell how Fortune’s Weave will fare compared to its predecessors.
