Cyberpunk 2077 has continued to receive support years after its original release, with CD Projekt Red expanding Night City’s possibilities through updates and additional content, and now Update 2.5 is on the horizon. Cyberpunk 2077‘s 2.0 overhaul and Phantom Liberty expansion significantly changed the experience, while the developer has continued to find ways to bring players back to its futuristic open world. Now, another update is on the way, giving fans a new reason to return to Night City this week.

The latest announcement also comes as the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise continues to expand beyond the original game. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners introduced a wider audience to Night City through its story of David Martinez and Lucy, while the upcoming anime sequel is set to explore another corner of the setting. With the franchise continuing to grow, CD Projekt Red has an opportunity to bring more of its anime-inspired world into the game itself, and that’s exactly what it’s doing.

CD Projekt Red has officially announced Update 2.5 for Cyberpunk 2077, a free update inspired by the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The update is scheduled to launch on October 22, bringing new content to the game as the anime sequel makes its debut on Netflix. The announcement confirms the update’s release date, although the full list of additions has not yet been revealed, but fans don’t have to wait long to learn more.

CD Projekt Red has announced a special REDstreams broadcast for October 21 at 5 PM CEST (which is 8 AM PT/11 AM ET), where the developer will share additional details about the new Cyberpunk 2077 update. Official patch notes are also expected to provide a clearer look at what players can expect when the update arrives. For now, the Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 anime connection is the main confirmed detail, as well as the above teaser image, leaving fans waiting to see exactly how the anime will influence the game.

While Update 2.5 sounds like a smaller addition to Cyberpunk 2077 rather than a major overhaul on the scale of Update 2.0, it continues a pattern that has kept players coming back to Night City. Since the 2.0 update transformed the game’s core systems in 2023, CD Projekt Red has repeatedly found another reason to revisit the RPG. Each time, CDPR has said it would be the last patch for Cyberpunk 2077, and it has felt like the game was approaching the end of its post-launch support, only for one more update to come along (and give players another excuse to reinstall it). Even if Update 2.5 isn’t a game-changing release, it shows that CD Projekt Red still has a few more things to offer Cyberpunk 2077.

Update 2.5 is confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 22, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version following shortly afterward. Since the update is free, existing players will not need to purchase a separate expansion to access its additions, though the specific features and content will become clearer once CD Projekt Red shares the full details. The October 21 REDstreams presentation should clarify what the update includes before it launches the following day. Until then, Cyberpunk 2077 fans will have to wait for the official patch notes to see how much new content is coming to Night City.
