Developer Behaviour Interactive has just announced that Jason Voorhees, the iconic slasher villain from the Friday the 13th franchise, will be heading to Dead by Daylight as the asymmetrical horror game’s next DLC Killer. Jason will join Dead by Daylight‘s ever-growing roster on June 16, just a few short weeks away.
Since its launch almost 10 years ago, Dead by Daylight has welcomed a plethora of horror movie icons with open arms. That began all the way back in October 2016 with the launch of Dead by Daylight‘s Halloween Chapter, which added Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, both of which are unfortunately no longer available to purchase due to license expiration. Since 2016, Dead by Daylight‘s crossovers have continued at a frankly staggering pace, with the game’s playable roster now containing icons from Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien, Child’s Play, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Stranger Things, Alan Wake, Castlevania, and many more.

Jason Voorhees Is Dead by Daylight’s Next Killer
Announced via a very brief teaser trailer, Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees will take center stage in Dead by Daylight‘s next DLC Chapter. As should be expected, Jason will take on the role of Dead by Daylight‘s next Killer, though Behaviour Interactive hasn’t officially revealed any of his in-game abilities just yet. Jason is set to launch on June 16, just two days after Dead by Daylight‘s 10th anniversary stream, which is sure to contain a bevy of new announcements related to the horror game’s future.

A (Very) Brief History of Jason Voorhees’ Video Game Appearances
While Jason is a natural and obvious fit for Dead by Daylight, it’s far from the villain’s first appearance in the world of video games. Released in 1986 for the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum, Jason Voorhees’ video game debut was in Friday the 13th: The Computer Game, an ambitious adventure horror game that saw players finding improvised weapons and confronting Jason before he took out their pixelated friends.
Just three years later, Jason would appear in Friday the 13th for the NES, a similar title that had players hunting Jason down in a side-scrolling action game. Though officially-licensed Friday the 13th tie-in games took a lengthy hiatus, the horror icon made a triumphant cameo in Mortal Kombat X‘s first DLC Kombat Pack in 2015.

Most recently, Jason Voorhees took the spotlight in his very own video game adaptation. Simply titled Friday the 13th: The Game, this 2017 officially-licensed tie-in was developed by IllFonic, a studio that’s gone on to release Predator: Hunting Grounds, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game. IllFonic’s Friday the 13th game featured a generally similar gameplay structure to Dead by Daylight, with it offering an asymmetrical multiplayer experience that saw one player suit up as Jason Voorhees, and up to seven other players assume the role of Camp Crystal Lake counselors. Friday the 13th: The Game received a mixed reception from critics upon its release and the game was delisted from storefronts in 2023 and its servers were shutdown in 2024.
