Game Freak revealed new information about its upcoming Action RPG Beast of Reincarnation and when fans can finally get their hands on the game. It’s been a lengthy development road for Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation, having started development 6 years ago in 2020 and being announced back in 2023 as Project Bloom alongside Private Division. After Private Division was sold and renamed to Fictions, Project Bloom eventually evolved into Beast of Reincarnation, with Game Freak’s marketing machine really ramping up for the game’s 2026 launch.
Despite Pokemon‘s 30th Anniversary and Game Freak’s history being intertwined with that franchise, the developer has recently been very active showcasing Beast of Reincarnation through Xbox’s Developer Direct and the February PlayStation State of Play. While Game Freak has certainly released original games over the years, like Tembo the Badass Elephant and Little Town Hero, the developer is heavily involved with Nintendo’s Pokemon franchise, so when the studio is able to branch out with something new, it tends to get some attention. Beast of Reincarnation appears to be the studio’s most ambitious non-Pokemon game in a very long time and fans now know when they can finally check it out.
Beast of Reincarnation Release Date
As part of Sony’s February 2026 PlayStation State of Play, Game Freak was again featured, revealing a new trailer for Beast of Reincarnation. The trailer also confirmed that Beast of Reincarnation will be launching on August 4, 2026, a date that helps the game avoid the typical end-of-year rush of AAA games. August is also likely safe from a potential Grand Theft Auto 6 launch, which, while nothing it yet confirmed for that game, continues to hang over the gaming industry as other studios are keen to avoid that launch radius as much as possible.
Described by Game Freak as a one-person, one-dog action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation has players in the shoes of Emma the Sealer, a character that has been cast out of society because she’s able to utilize Blight powers to not only manipulate plant life to solve puzzles and traverse the land, but to fight enemies as well. Emma is joined by a dog companion called Koo as they work together to free a post-apocalyptic Japan from a corrupted creature causing decay and damage to the world. Beast of Reincarnation has been compared to Studio Ghibli, specifically Princess Mononoke and its Spirit of the Forest, due to both having symbolism around the idea of birth and regrowth.

To this point, Beast of Reincarnation will be coming to PC as well as Game Freak’s first game to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Ironically, it doesn’t appear that Beast of Reincarnation will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2, which is a bit odd considering the relationship that Game Freak has with Nintendo through Pokemon. However, there’s still plenty of time to announce that if it is at all in the cards, with Nintendo fans eagerly awaiting some sort of Direct to showcase what the company has planned in 2026 for the Switch 2.
As is the case for many new games, especially first party titles from Microsoft, Beast of Reincarnation will also be available on Xbox Game Pass day 1 at launch for subscribers. To this point, main fans have been impressed by what Game Freak has been able to pull off with Beast of Reincarnation, as recent Pokemon games like Scarlet and Violet have been criticized for performance issues and underwhelming graphics. On the other hand, Beast of Reincarnation shows that Game Freak is capable of creating a game that hits plenty of modern standards, and in some cases, even exceeding those expectations.
