Daenerys Targaryen is making her return to the Game of Thrones franchise in 2027. Game of Thrones features a huge cast of popular characters, but one of the most popular by far is Daenerys Targaryen. While there is a great deal of controversy surrounding how Daenerys’ character was handled in the Game of Thrones TV show, especially in the final season, she remains a fan-favorite character.
The OG Game of Thrones show has been over for years now, but it’s lived on through spin-offs like House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Both House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms have been big hits, though their status as prequels means that they don’t feature any familiar faces for fans of the original show. Luckily, various Game of Thrones characters as they appeared in the original show will be making their returns to the franchise next year in the form of a real-time strategy video game from PlaySide.
Daenerys Targaryen Will Be in Game of Thrones: War for Westeros
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is set to launch in 2027 with a single-player campaign and multiplayer battles featuring four main factions. Players can choose to play as House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or The Night King, with each faction featuring popular characters from the show. House Stark includes characters like Jon Snow and Robb Stark, while Tywin and Jaime Lannister lead House Lannister. The Night King is the leader of his own faction, and of course, Daenerys Targaryen is leading the charge for House Targaryen in the game. Like in the show, Daenerys will have dragons at her side to give herself a significant advantage on the battlefield.
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros will effectively give players the chance to rewrite the history of Westeros, allowing certain factions to reign supreme over others. War for Westeros gameplay makes it look like a very solid RTS, and it will be exciting to see how the final product turns out when the game releases in 2027.

As far as Daenerys ever returning in a future Game of Thrones TV series, it’s unlikely but not impossible. We do know that HBO is moving forward with a Game of Thrones sequel show starring Arya Stark, and even though Daenerys was stabbed by Jon Snow at the end of the series, there’s already precedent for characters to come back from the dead. The last time we see Daenerys, her dragon Drogon flies away with her body, and so maybe a resurrection is on the table.
Fans shouldn’t hold their breath for that to happen, but it is interesting to speculate about. The Game of Thrones sequel show with Arya is still years away, though. In the more immediate future, fans can look forward to House of the Dragon‘s final season and at least a couple more seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. A Game of Thrones movie about Aegon’s Conquest is also in active development.
