Halloween is finally upon us, and so it’s safe to say that there are many gamers looking for something to play to celebrate the spooky season. GameRant recently counted down our picks for the Top 100 Horror Games of All Time, and while all of those are fantastic choices for any Halloween gaming sessions, there are still other titles worth highlighting. In fact, one game that was quietly released earlier this year is one of the best choices to play on Halloween night.
The Incident at Galley House is a remake of the text-based game Type Help. Galley House was developed by Evil Trout Inc, the same indie studio behind the well-received The Roottrees Are Dead. The Incident at Galley House has similarly enjoyed mostly positive reviews, but still hasn’t gotten quite the recognition it deserves. Currently only available on PC, as someone that just recently finished The Incident at Galley House, I can’t recommend it enough as a game that is perfect to play on Halloween.
The Incident at Galley House Has Perfect Halloween Vibes

For those unfamiliar with the game, The Incident at Galley House sees players take on the role of Reya, an investigator who finds herself in the abandoned, titular Galley House. Mysterious, unexplained deaths take place at the Galley House during a gathering decades prior, and Reya is able to utilize a special machine to peer into the past in an attempt to solve the mystery. Players gather clues about the residents and guests that night at the Galley House in an attempt to identify who everyone is and what their fate ultimately was. Players are able to plug coordinates into the machine, like a specific room, the people that were there, and the scene number that it was, and if they find something, they are shown what happened at that particular moment in time.
The Incident at Galley House isn’t trying to outright scare players most of the time, but it has creepy vibes and tells an effective murder mystery story. Even though it’s a single-player game, it’s one of those single-player titles that is more fun when played with friends. Solving The Incident at Galley House‘s puzzles and getting to the bottom of the story with my wife has proven to be one of the most entertaining gaming experiences I’ve enjoyed all year. I find that many puzzle games in general are best enjoyed with others, so Incident at Galley House may even be a strong choice if you are having people over as part of your Halloween festivities.
There have been some other notable new horror games released in 2026 that have proven to be excellent additions to the genre. Silver Pines is a Metroidvania horror game that has serious Silent Hill vibes, while Tenebris Somnia has been turning heads thanks to its blend of retro-style graphics and live-action scenes.
Of course, there are also the bigger budget blockbuster horror games to consider. Resident Evil Requiem released earlier this year to strong reviews, proving to be a successful blend of RE4-style action-horror and more traditional survival-horror, and Silent Hill: Townfall managed to translate the franchise’s horrors to first-person with strong results. So even if The Incident at Galley House or the other indie horrors aren’t your cup of tea, there should still be some new horror game you haven’t played yet that would be perfect to boot up for Halloween.
