Thanks to early datamining, Genshin Impact players now have a full overview of Nicole’s ability kit, as the 5-Star Pyro Catalyst is set to elevate Varka (and other hypercarries) to new heights. With Version 6.5 going live on April 8, 2026, Genshin Impact is entering its beta testing phase for Version 6.6 – a patch that promises to be entirely focused on the Hexerei. Not only is Nicole making her debut as a universal Hexerei Support, but Version 6.6 is also introducing Lohen and Prune: two complementary Hexerei characters.

Rumors initially painted Nicole as three things: a Pyro Shielder, a Hexerei Healer, and Varka’s ideal teammate. It’s no secret that Varka in Genshin Impact launched with underwhelming numbers and lacked synergy with a fair few of his teammates. He lacked a Lauma to his Nefer or an Escoffier to his Skirk. Version 6.6 will give Varka exactly that, as Nicole’s ability kit lives up to the expectations set by her rumors, and arguably surpasses them in some respects.

Genshin Impact Reveals New Characters and Map Expansion in Version 6.5 Livestream

Genshin Impact has plenty in store for players in Version 6.5, as the new update promises two new zones, a powerful new support character, and more.

Genshin Impact: Nicole Ability Kit Overview

  • 5-Star Pyro Catalyst
  • Made with Hexerei teams in mind, but flexible enough to work with other hypercarries (such as Lyney).
  • Elemental Skill: Unmanifest Light
    • Creates a Pyro Shield that scales with ATK, providing the active character with ATK, and boosting it further if they are on the field for more than three seconds, or if they are a Hexerei member.
  • Elemental Burst: Pilgrimage of the Heavenly Path
    • Deals Pyro damage and summons Mystical Projections, who deal coordinated attacks that scale with the active character’s ATK. These attacks are of the same elemental type as the active character’s, rather than Nicole’s Pyro.
  • Utility Passive: Quiet Contemplation
    • While not in combat, Nicole’s Charged Attack summons a Seelie that guides players to the nearest treasure chest, but only for zones in which the player has crafted its respective Treasure Compass.

According to Seele Leaks, the datamine reveals Nicole as a 5-Star Pyro Catalyst with an Elemental Skill that provides a shield to the active character while buffing their ATK. Notably, Nicole’s Elemental Burst summons Mystical Projections that function as coordinated attacks similar to Shenhe’s quills. Early theorycrafting compares Nicole to a 5-Star Bennett who shields rather than heals. However, there are a few restrictions for Nicole that define her niche. The biggest one relates to her being a Hexerei character in Genshin Impact.

When paired with a Hexerei teammate, Nicole’s Mystical Projections deal additional Elemental Damage equal to 150% of the triggering character’s ATK. Moreover, the ATK buff on Nicole’s shield triggers immediately for Hexerei characters, while other hypercarries have to wait three seconds after entering the field. In theory, this makes Nicole incompatible with Mavuika teams in Genshin Impact, but Varka and Venti will favor her over Bennett as the sustain option. This restriction is lifted entirely with Nicole’s C6.

A fun passive for Nicole turns her Charged Attack into a Treasure Compass in Genshin Impact, where she summons a Seelie that guides the player to the nearest treasure chest. This passive only works for regions that the players have made a Treasure Compass for, excluding Dragonspine once more. First impressions of Nicole have been overwhelmingly positive, and players are excited to see how her ability kit will perform during the beta test for Version 6.5. One thing that gives the community pause is Nicole’s particle generation: both her Signature Weapon and the new Hexerei Artifact Set imply that Nicole will have a costly Elemental Burst.

Nicole is expected to make her debut during the first half of Version 6.6 and will likely be accompanied by either Lohen, Mavuika, or Durin. Players can prefarm for Nicole’s ascension materials, but her talent materials will be locked behind the new Trounce Domain boss coming in Version 6.6. The upcoming patch for Genshin Impact, as well as Nicole’s debut, is set to arrive on May 20, 2026.
