Since the shadow drop of Gods of War Sons of Sparta earlier this month, some players have complained about being unable to play the co-op mode until after beating the game. That ends now, because Sony has revealed a way to skip ahead to the Pit of Agonies.

As revealed on PlayStation Blog, there’s an old-school way to reach the Pit prior to unlocking it. At the starting menu, simply put in the following button sequence:

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, L1, R1, Touchpad.

Successfully entering that code will make a new option appear in the menu that can go straight to the challenge mode. The Pit of Agonies can be played solo or with two players, however, it doesn’t support online co-op at this time. Instead, Sons of Sparta will only allow two-player local co-op if you want Kratos and Deimos to fight side-by-side.

Before staring a run in the Pit, players will have to choose their agony, or difficulty modifier. The agonies put the players’ characters at a disadvantage through various means, including enemies’ ability to regenerate their health or violently explode upon defeat. Each run will pit players against different enemies and draw from separate reward pools.

Upon completion, players will gain Ashes of Agony, a Pit-specific resource that can be used to acquire permanent upgrades that last between attempts. Players will also earn a Symbol of Suffering for the agonies they picked before the run. After earning a certain number of symbols, additional agonies will be unlocked.

Sony has announced a God of War trilogy remake, which will feature the return of original Kratos voice actor T.C. Carson. Current Kratos actor Christopher Judge has also hinted at a new project to be announced this summer, but it may not be a God of War-related game.
