Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most heavily hyped video games ever, and everyone is expecting the game to have a giant launch later this year. But just how much money could the game bring in?
According to broker data company Visible Alpha, GTA 6 is estimated to reach $5 billion in revenue by 2030, the Financial Times reported. It could sell 100 million copies by that time period, the firm predicted.
This follows on from a previous estimate from DFC Intelligence that said GTA 6 could sell 40 million copies and bring in $3.2 billion during its first year alone. That figure includes revenue from physical and digital game sales, as well as microtransactions. DFC also predicted that GTA 6 will get another sales boost when it comes to the (unannounced but expected) next PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC.
Take-Two, which owns GTA 6 developer Rockstar Games, has not released any official sales projections for GTA 6. Predecessor GTA 5 has sold more than 225 million copies and makes even more money from GTA Online and its microtransactions.
GTA 6’s developers likely stand to benefit from the game’s sales, too, as Take-Two has a profit-sharing program with its workers. These bonuses are called “internal royalties” on Take-Two’s books, and for the last three months of 2025, Take-Two paid out more than $167 million in bonuses to its workers. The number is expected to be much higher when GTA 6 comes out.
GTA 6 is expected to make a mountain of money, and it no doubt also cost a mountain of money to produce given it’s been in development for years and has presumably hundreds of developers working on it. Take-Two does not disclose official budget numbers, however, for any of its games.
The marketing campaign for GTA 6 will begin in earnest this summer. Marketing the game is a “challenge” because Rockstar and Take-Two want to be “delicate” with how they push the game, Take-Two’s Strauss Zelnick has said.
“It has to feel like, you know, this is real. We’re not selling hamburgers. We’re selling this unique art form,” he explained.
Zelnick went on to say that the November 19 date for GTA 6 seems pretty solid at this stage because Rockstar is about to spend big money on promoting it. “We don’t spend money on marketing until we’re pretty close to release,” he said.
