Grand Theft Auto 6 has received its official ratings from various organizations, marking yet another important milestone for the game as we get closer to its November 19 launch. Grand Theft Auto fans have been waiting 13 years since the last game to play a new entry in the long-running series, but the wait is nearly at an end. Grand Theft Auto 6‘s release date is right around the corner, and the game keeps passing major milestones that make another delay extremely unlikely.

As we’ve gotten closer to the GTA 6 release date, Rockstar has ramped up marketing for the game. GTA 6 received a special Extended Look on Netflix that showed off nearly 30 minutes of gameplay, and a pricey $400 Collector’s Box was also revealed. More recently, Rockstar previewed the GTA 6 radio stations, giving fans a brief look at what they can expect to listen to when driving around in the game’s open world.

Why GTA 6 is Rated M for Mature

Another major milestone that GTA 6 has hit is its age ratings, which typically aren’t issued until a game is close to release. Various organizations have issued their official ratings for GTA 6, with the ESRB hitting the game with an unsurprising M for Mature rating. As confirmed by the ESRB rating, GTA 6 will feature Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol, so its M for Mature rating will definitely be justified, to say the least. In the meantime, more details about GTA 6 have been revealed by other ratings boards.

GTA 6‘s R18+ rating in Australia and New Zealand confirms that the game will feature “sex scenes.” This is more specific than “Strong Sexual Content.” Based on recent leaks, it seems GTA 6 may even have full-frontal nudity for its main characters, which may sound shocking to some but isn’t entirely new in video games. Other reports have said that the game will generally avoid showing its main characters completely naked, so that’s something fans will have to play for themselves to find out more about.

And then there’s the GTA 6 PEGI rating to consider. Unsurprisingly, GTA 6 has been rated PEGI 18, with that ratings board detailing even more of the content fans can expect to see in the final product. The PEGI rating has confirmed GTA 6 has decapitation, dismemberment, the ability to carry around cocaine and use it, discriminatory language, and the ability to “purchase in-game items.” The latter seemingly contradicts previous claims about GTA 6 not having microtransactions, but it’s possible this is referring to opportunities to upgrade to the $100 Deluxe Edition to unlock certain stores in-game. We likely won’t have solid answers on that front until we play the game for ourselves, but it’s worth noting that the ESRB rating also denoted “in-game purchases.”

Based on the ratings, GTA 6 is going to be yet another Grand Theft Auto game that pushes the envelope. GTA 6 is going to feature all kinds of wild content, but the key will be delivering the mayhem alongside well-written characters and a memorable story. Considering Rockstar’s track record, it should have no problem achieving those goals.
