There are no plans for Grand Theft Auto 6 to release a post-launch physical version of the game with a disc, it’s claimed. There has been plenty of confusion about Rockstar’s plans for the physical version of GTA 6, but it seems those waiting for a disc will be left disappointed in the months after the game’s launch.
After Rockstar recently unveiled GTA 6‘s price details, it was confirmed that the physical version of the game will not launch with a disc in the box, but rather a download code for the PlayStation or Microsoft Store. However, it was quickly reported that GTA 6 could receive a physical disc version in the months after its initial launch, fueled by a ticket to Rockstar Support being answered with the response, “You will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months.” It’s understandable why fans might just to that conclusion, having seen that.

No GTA 6 Physical Disc at Launch, ‘And Not Months After’
A new report from Hollywood Reporter has poured cold water on the idea of a GTA 6 physical disc release. The report states that this has been “misinterpreted by a hopeful internet,” as per a THR source close to the matter. It also reaffirms the idea that there are no plans to print discs for the game, “not at launch, and not months after,” after fans misinterpreted the previous message from Rockstar Support.
There are a few reasons why this is disappointing news. Not having the disc is unfortunate for collectors, who may want a physical disc as part of their collection years down the line. But more immediately, this poses an issue for used game market, which will essentially become non-existent for GTA 6. Gamers will be unable to sell their copy of GTA 6 to another player, whether that be immediately after completion or in years to come. And given GTA 6‘s hefty $80 price tag, giving gamers no choice but to purchase the game new could even price out some, which would be unfortunate.
After years of secrecy, the beginning of summer has seemingly kicked off what will be an enormous marketing campaign for GTA 6. Rockstar has already started to reveal some more details about the game, while simultaneously beginning pre-orders for GTA 6. When it launches on November 19, 2026, it is expected to become the biggest video game launch of all time.
