Waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6 has left a lot of gamers eager for new details, and hacker group ShinyHunters claims that it is planning to release internal data that was stolen from Rockstar over the weekend. Grand Theft Auto 6 will be Rockstar’s first new game in eight years, and many are expecting it to be not only the biggest launch of the year, but possibly the decade.
In just a few weeks, GTA 6‘s second trailer will officially be one year old. The wait between the first and second trailer was a year and a half, so many are craving a third sneak peek at Rockstar’s crime adventure. GTA 6 leaks and rumors have constantly swirled around the internet for years now, and a lot of GTA fans may be intrigued about ShinyHunters’ hack. However, Rockstar doesn’t seem too worried about the situation.
Grand Theft Auto Fans Have One Big Concern When It Comes to GTA 6
The expectations surrounding GTA are continuing to grow, and one major concern is focused on the game’s environmental realism.
Rockstar Hackers Threaten to Release Stolen GTA 6 Data After April 14
ShinyHunters gave Rockstar until April 14 to officially respond, but the developer’s response wasn’t exactly what the hacker group wanted to hear. Rockstar has confirmed that the hack did indeed happen. However, the company’s official statement to IGN hints that whatever information ShinyHunters was able to acquire has no real effect on GTA 6‘s development or Rockstar’s day-to-day operations. The official statement states:
We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach. This incident has no impact on our organization or our players.
Over the years, ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for a variety of major company hacks. The group has been active since 2020, and its data breaches include massive corporations like Microsoft, Google, AT&T Wireless, LVMH, Jaguar Land Rover, and Ticketmaster. Just this year alone, ShinyHunters has attempted hacks on seven other entities that include the likes of GrubHub and the European Commission. This wouldn’t be the first time that hackers have infiltrated Rockstar. Back in 2022, teenager Arion Kurtaj hacked Rockstar and leaked early GTA 6 footage using an Amazon Fire Stick.
Right now, it remains to be seen whether ShinyHunters will actually release the information that the group has in its possession. Considering that Rockstar confirmed that the stolen data was “limited” and “non-material,” it’s unlikely that ShinyHunters’ findings are anything significant, like a new GTA 6 trailer. Rockstar has had to deal with leaks for years at this point. The developer even had to release the first trailer a day early because a low-quality version had been leaked onto YouTube.

Unless another delay happens, GTA 6 seems to be on track to finally launch later this year. November 19 may feel far away right now, but GTA 6‘s release date being less than a year off is exciting for many. Leaks regarding GTA 6 missions and major plot points have continued to pop up, but only time will tell what turns out to be true. Take-Two Interactive revealed in its February earnings call that GTA 6‘s marketing is scheduled to kick off this summer, and Rockstar can hopefully stick to that deadline. Once GTA 6‘s price point is confirmed and pre-orders are made available, the long-awaited next chapter in Rockstar’s crime-filled franchise will feel more real than ever.
