Helldivers 2 released on February 8th and is experiencing some significant issues that involve crashes, matchmaking issues, and login troubles. Arrowhead’s CEO, which is the studio behind Helldivers 2, offered fans an update on the studio’s progress in fixing these issues.
On a surface level, Helldivers 2 is off to a hot start. At the time of writing, Helldivers 2 is Steam’s top-selling game in the United States and the third top-selling game globally following its anticipated launch. The third-person shooter is a follow-up to Helldivers, a beloved top-down shooter that released in 2015. Many fans were looking forward to Helldivers 2‘s launch, but unfortunately, things haven’t gone so smoothly.
Helldivers 2 Has Serious Outriders Vibes
With Helldivers 2 gearing up to make its debut, some of its features and story elements are reminiscent of Outriders.
Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt posted a message to the official Helldivers Discord explaining that the studio has entered a “bit of a crisis mode” as it rushes to fix the various issues plaguing Helldivers 2 players. He further explained that the large number of day-one users caused new issues that never occurred during the game’s testing phase, and that Arrowhead is working on a patch to repair Helldivers 2. Pilestedt recommended users to team up with friends or other community members since the “joining friends” function was working fine at the time of his message. At the time of writing, many users report that Helldivers 2‘s servers are still experiencing significant issues, but Arrowhead has begun to implement some backend fixes ahead of the future patch. Pilestedt did not offer a timeline for when fans can expect Helldivers 2 to be fixed.

Helldivers 2 fans have expressed their eagerness to jump back into the new game so that they can get back to vanquishing its enemies and earning Helldivers 2‘s trophies. Despite this excitement, Helldivers 2‘s Steam reviews are suffering from the game’s rocky launch, as it sits at a Mixed approval rating of 53%. While many fans are probably disappointed that the game is in a rough state, it’s impressive that Helldivers 2 has managed to compete with other heavy hitters on Steam.
Currently, Helldivers 2‘s third-place ranking on the global top-selling Steam chart puts it one place ahead of Palworld and its massive fan base. PUBG and Counter-Strike 2, which are both free-to-play games that rack up revenue through means other than game sales, are the only titles ahead of Helldivers 2.
Curious fans looking to give the game a try might be happy to know that Helldivers 2 works for both solo and co-op players, although it doesn’t support couch co-op like its predecessor did. Additionally, Arrowhead previously confirmed that the game will receive free post-launch content.
Helldivers 2 is a third-person cooperative shooter developed by Arrowhead Games Studios for the PC and PlayStation 5 where players take control of a Helldiver set to protect the citizens of Super Earth by traveling to hostile alien worlds and destroying threats. Players undergo missions, defeat enemies, and use special items called Stratagems to help turn the tide of battle in this punishing release.
