Another Helldivers 2 update is now available to download on the PlayStation 5 and PC. Identified by version number 01.000.303, this release is largely focused on fixing some “common” causes of Helldivers 2 crashes.

Arrowhead Games Studios’ hit live service shooter has been treated to over a dozen patches since its early February launch. This newly rolled out revision is the 13th Helldivers 2 update to date.

Damage-Over-Time Weapons Should No Longer Cause Helldivers 2 to Crash

The May 8 patch attempts to address several known causes of game crashes. One of them is related to Helldivers 2 weapons that deal damage over time, with the changelog attached to the latest update stating that using such armaments should no longer affect the shooter’s stability. The 01.000.303 patch is the game’s second consecutive update to touch upon this weapon type; the previous one, released on May 7, fixed the damage-over-time effect, which had been partially broken since launch.

The new update also fixes a “very common crash” caused by players hot-joining Helldivers 2 Quick Play sessions that have become full. While the root cause of this issue remains unclear, Arrowhead said that its fix has changed some of the mechanics of how the “Recent Players” list is populated. Specifically, players will no longer show up in this log if they leave from the loadout, and their presence will only be recorded after they actually reach the planet on which the match is taking place.

The issue with hot-joining public matches may have had wider implications beyond affecting the game’s stability. That’s according to some social media reports from Helldivers 2 players claiming their success rate with joining Quick Play sessions has been dramatically improved following the new update. Prior to the 01.000.303 patch, many players were reportedly frequently being returned to their ships when attempting to hot-join matches, even though the game itself wouldn’t crash. Arrowhead did not officially relate the two issues, so this purported improvement may be a coincidence.

The developer’s latest patch notes come with a list of 15 known issues that are yet to be addressed. Those include selectively broken in-game friend functions and a bug that prevents players from reinforcing their teammates in certain scenarios. The latter is another problem that is understood to be related to hot-joining sessions. As per usual, players are encouraged to report any problems not listed under the game’s known issues. This release arrives mere days after the giant controversy stemming from an attempt to make PSN account linking mandatory for PC players. Following much backlash, which included review-bombing and refund requests, Sony reversed the controversial Helldivers 2 decision on May 6.
