- Despite occasional bugs, Bethesda continues to support Starfield and plans to release the Shattered Space DLC, likely with more bug fixes and improvements.
A player has encountered a strange bug in Starfield that sees a thief hilariously disintegrating into the floor after they’re killed. Bethesda’s latest RPG epic launched in September to solid reviews. While it surprisingly turned out to be one of the most polished Bethesda Game Studios outings to date, most likely due to extended development time, Starfield players still report coming across some bugs from time to time.
Starfield has just recently received an enormous new update which saw many technical improvements to its visuals and a ton of bug fixes. Improvements to textures, lighting, and shadows populate the graphics portion of the update, helping to redeem one of Starfield‘s more criticized areas. A problem that had players’ characters close their eyes while in third-person has been ironed out, as well as the headache of having all ship crew members flooding the cockpit upon fast traveling to one’s ship. The huge update even addressed several issues with a laundry list of quests, as well as with one of Starfield‘s more beloved systems, ship and outpost building.
Starfield Player Accidentally Makes Character That Looks Like Scully from X-Files, Bethesda Responds
A Starfield player accidentally makes an in-game recreation of Gillian Anderson’s Scully from X-Files that elicits a response from Bethesda.
Despite all this, it seems some bugs are continuing to slip through the cracks. One player on Reddit, Justin_General, posted a clip of a scripted event players encounter when arriving at the Crimson Fleet HQ, the Key, for the first time to begin their faction questline. Two members of the Fleet get into a dispute over stolen goods before the thief gets shot dead. This time, though, the dead thief’s groaning corpse melts through the ground as it garishly distorts and slowly slides away.
Sitting nearby, one of the Fleet’s respected leaders, Naeva, adds to the hilarity when she comments about making “a mess in front of my new rook” as the glitching glob of a melted thief continues to cruise through the room. It’s strange that a bug from a scripted moment in one of Starfield’s more popular faction questlines, which unfolds the first time players set foot on the Key, has gone seemingly unnoticed and unfixed by Bethesda. With that in mind, it must be quite a rare bug. Commenters under the post seem to be mixed, though, with some players saying they haven’t encountered a bug like this in hundreds of hours of playtime, and others adding they came across the exact same one recently.
What’s Next For Starfield?
Bethesda’s support for Starfield is far from over, as the planned Shattered Space DLC is still on the way. Though some believe it’ll launch in 2024, a release window for the DLC is still unconfirmed. However, fans can almost certainly expect Shattered Space to arrive with a healthy dose of even more bug fixes and improvements whenever it may come.
Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, Starfield is a sci-fi action role-playing game where players interact with multiple factions, engage in combat, customize their main character and ship, as well as explore a universe that features over 100 systems and 1,000 planets.
