This coming Tuesday, June 18 is set to be a particularly busy day for anyone subscribed to Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus. New content is added to both Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus on various days throughout each month, but there are times when the stars align and one day in particular ends up being super busy for both services.

There are some days when PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass both receive significant new game releases at the same time. There are also days when these new additions coincide with probable announcements about what else is to come for the services. Other times still, these days are particularly busy because they’re unfortunately home to game departures.

Tuesday, June 18 checks all those boxes. On that day, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be treated to a new day one game, and unless Microsoft breaks from its established patterns, it’s also highly likely to be the day that the Wave 2 announcement for the Xbox Game Pass June 2024 lineup is announced. On the PS Plus side of things, those signed up for the Extra and Premium tiers can look forward to the June 2024 additions, though they should also be aware that some games will be leaving that day as well.

Why June 18 is Going to Be a Big Day for Xbox Game Pass

still wakes the deep blob monster

  • New day one game Still Wakes the Deep
  • June 2024 Wave 2 announcement

Xbox Game Pass subscribers only have one new game to look forward to on Tuesday, June 18, but it’s a notable one. On Tuesday, June 18, Still Wakes the Deep joins the Xbox Game Pass lineup as a day one game. Day one games add the most value to Xbox Game Pass, and there’s a chance Still Wakes the Deep could prove to be a particularly impressive new addition.

For the uninitiated, Still Wakes the Deep is a new first-person horror game set on an oil rig. Like many modern horror games, Still Wakes the Deep doesn’t have any kind of combat system to speak of, which should raise the tension considerably. The game is being developed by The Chinese Room, the same studio behind Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, so chances are good that it will live up to expectations. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to find out for themselves when the game is added to the service on June 18.

The addition of Still Wakes the Deep is enough to make June 18 an exciting day for Xbox Game Pass, but there’s another reason fans will want to circle that date on their calendars. June 18 is also highly likely to be the day that Microsoft announces all of the games coming to the service in the second half of the month. At the time of this writing, there are no more Xbox Game Pass games confirmed for June 2024 beyond Still Wakes the Deep, so it will be interesting to see what all is added to the lineup.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is the highest tier of Microsoft’s flagship game subscription service that offers over 100 game titles that you can play with a single purchase, making it one of the most outstanding value propositions of the Xbox ecosystem to date.

PlayStation Plus subscribers have reason to celebrate on June 18 as well, assuming they’re signed up for the Extra or Premium tier, anyway. 14 new games are coming to PS Plus Extra and Premium on June 18, including critically-acclaimed games like Crusader Kings 3 and Monster Hunter Rise. Those signed up for Premium will also have the chance to check out PSP classic Daxter, PS2 game Ghosthunter, VR title Kayak VR: Mirage, and LEGO Star Wars 2: The Original Trilogy, on top of all the games coming to the Extra tier.

These new game additions should ensure that June 18 is a big day for PS Plus Extra and Premium, but it’s going to be a busy day for those tiers for another reason as well. Not only will June 18 be the day that 14 games come to PS Plus Extra and Premium, but it’s also the day that PS Plus subscribers will have to say goodbye to some of the titles that are currently available on the service.
