With rumors swirling that Kingdom Come developer Warhorse is developing a new The Lord of the Rings RPG, actor Tom McKay–who plays main character Henry in the Kingdom Come series–has commented on which The Lord of the Rings character he would like to play in a hypothetical game.
He told Radio Times that The Lord of the Rings is filled with “incredibly rich, complex characters,” but if he had to choose one, it would be a character with Aragorn vibes. He also said, should he be cast in a Lord of the Rings game, he would want his character to differ from Henry.
“If I were to do it, and I flatter to think that anybody would want me to do it, I’d probably rather nudge it away from the Henry vibes a little bit. I quite like playing a sort of broad palette of characters,” he said.
To be sure, no new The Lord of the Rings games have been announced, from Warhorse or any other studio. That being said, Embracer–which owns the gaming rights to the series–said a while back that it is prototyping multiple new The Lord of the Rings games and wants to see a renaissance for The Lord of the Rings in gaming. Given all that, it seems to be just a matter of time before a new game is announced.
Rumors and reports have said both Warhorse and another Embracer-owned studio, Crystal Dynamics, are each working on new The Lord of the Rings games.
Recently, Warhorse held a Reddit AMA where it was asked if its new game is a new The Lord of the Rings game. The studio did not confirm anything, but said it is making a “huge, immersive RPG.”
While no new The Lord of the Rings games have been announced, multiple new movies are in the works, including 2027’s The Hunt for Gollum. That movie brings back Elijah Wood as Frodo, Ian McKellan as Gandalf, and Lee Pace as Thranduil. Leo Woodall will play Aragorn/Strider in the movie. After that will come a film written by comedian, TV host, and The Lord of the Rings superfan Stephen Colbert.
