The game was first revealed during the franchise’s 20th anniversary event, where a trailer showed Sora’s situation after the events of Kingdom Hearts 3. This included a brand-new look for Sora, an apartment and city that resembled modern day Tokyo, and even some gameplay footage where Sora battled a giant Heartless.
Following this trailer, Square Enix has been silent about Kingdom Hearts 4‘s progress. The company has been putting its attention towards marketing the release of Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth throughout 2023-2024, which has left Kingdom Hearts fans without much to go on. The last official update Kingdom Hearts 4 received was the aforementioned reveal trailer two years ago, and fans have been starving for more info since. This new piece of information from a notable insider should be good news for fans of the franchise.

While this potential release window for Kingdom Hearts 4 seems a little bit soon, it’s entirely plausible. The first trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 showed a bit of gameplay footage, meaning it is potentially further in development than some might expect. With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth out, this will likely give series director Tetsuya Nomura a chance to refocus on Kingdom Hearts 4.
Kingdom Hearts 4 Could Release in 2025, says Leaker

While DanielRPK’s statement isn’t much to go off on, and insiders like him have been wrong before, fans should both be excited and wary of these claims.
While speculation about Kingdom Hearts 4 has been pretty rampant, the series hasn’t been entirely radio silent. A mobile action RPG spin-off, Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link is also currently in development, though the latest update the game received was when Square Enix released a Missing Link teaser trailer back at the end of October 2023.
