A brand-new event featuring Kingdom Hearts has been confirmed for August 14, leading many fans to naturally conclude that Kingdom Hearts 4 news (perhaps worlds or a new trailer) is likely to take place there. Doubling down on that is the fact that a new Kingdom Hearts 4 combat trailer was released at the Nintendo Direct in June, so it seems like Disney and Square Enix are shaping up to share more about the franchise’s next entry.
After years of limited updates, Kingdom Hearts 4 is finally back in the spotlight following its recent trailer, and many fans are curious about the story, the world, and/or even the “new” characters shown in the recent Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer. Now, there’s reason to believe news could be coming midway through August.
Kingom Hearts Makes an Official Appearance at D23
Kingdom Hearts is officially part of this year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, as confirmed by Disney, making the annual showcase one of the biggest upcoming events for fans of the long-running RPG series. The event is promising insight into the Kingdom Hearts franchise’s development, stating that a deep dive will explore how “this saga united Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix, with insights from the creative minds, character voices, and more behind the magic.” What’s important here is that D23 has been the source of major gaming news the world over, so it would not be surprising for it to include something concrete on Kingdom Hearts 4, even if that’s not guaranteed. After all, Kingdom Hearts 3 confirmed Big Hero 6 at a D23 event.

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
While Disney hasn’t explicitly confirmed Kingdom Hearts 4 will appear, just the franchise, the deep dive scheduled for August 15 is insight at least, news at best. And it’s possible, even, that news leads into the panels since D23 begins on August 14. Either way, something is coming out of D23, and it would be odd for Kingdom Hearts not to give its due attention when other IPs do as well. The event will also feature Disney’s Entertainment Showcase, where the company has promised first looks, surprise announcements, celebrity appearances, and previews of upcoming projects across its biggest brands.
Beyond Kingdom Hearts 4, the event could also feature merchandise, anniversary celebrations, developer commentary, collaborations, or other franchise announcements. Disney has made it clear that this year’s D23 will celebrate both the company’s history and its future, putting Kingdom Hearts in a unique position as one of Disney’s biggest gaming partnerships.
It’s also worth noting that Gamescom takes place just a couple of weeks later, with Opening Night Live scheduled for August 25. It may be that Kingdom Hearts appears at D23 without KH4, setting up a one-two punch for one of the biggest nights in gaming. Or perhaps Disney and Square Enix have set up two knockout punches for August. Either way, the first stop on this train is August 15, and fans should be sure to pay close attention to any upcoming announcements.
