Roblox Corporation has been hit with yet another lawsuit, this time from LA County, over the company’s online social game Roblox being “an unsafe online environment that has become a breeding ground for predators.”
According to a February 20 Game Developer report, LA County has cited myriad “unfair and deceptive business practices” that put children in danger. Posted to the county’s official website, the suit alleges that Roblox “failed to protect children from predatory behavior” and “repeatedly exposed [them] to sexually explicit content, exploitation, and grooming” by putting profits over protections. It also claims that Roblox hasn’t done enough to implement safeguards that actually protect children despite public announcements to do so, which does include facial scans and age-verification checks.
“This lawsuit is about protecting children from online predators and inappropriate content,” Los Angeles County board chair and first district supervisor Hilda L. Solis said. “Roblox has a responsibility to keep kids safe, but instead, it has allowed its platform to become a place where children can be exposed to grooming and exploitation. Los Angeles County is taking action to hold the company accountable and demand real safeguards.”
Filed by county counsel Dawyn R. Harrison on behalf of the People of the State of California, she explained that this lawsuit is about “a company that gives pedophiles powerful tools to prey on innocent and unsuspecting children” and that the trauma “needs to stop.” The director of the county’s department of consumer and business affairs, Rafael Carbajal, echoed Harrison’s concerns, claiming Roblox has “long been aware that predators use its product to target and exploit children,” but continues to fail children, who are “paying the price.”
In a statement to GameSpot, a Roblox spokesperson said the company “strongly disputes the claims in this lawsuit” and will do whatever it can to defend itself. The spokesperson also said that Roblox is “built with safety at its core,” with the overarching goal being to “evolve and strengthen” its backend protections every day.
“We have advanced safeguards that monitor our platform for harmful content and communications, and users cannot send or receive images via chat, avoiding one of the most prevalent opportunities for misuse seen elsewhere online,” the spokesperson said. Safety is a constant and consistent focus of our work. We take swift action against anyone found to violate our safety rules and work closely with law enforcement to support investigations and help hold bad actors accountable. There is no finish line when it comes to protecting kids, and while no system can be perfect, our commitment to safety never ends.”
Roblox has faced heavy criticism since a 2024 Bloomberg investigation revealed the platform has a rampant pedophile problem. Since then, several states–Florida to Kentucky to Louisiana to Texas–have levied lawsuits against Roblox Corporation over child safety concerns. Co-founder and CEO David Baszucki tried to discuss how the company is combating grooming allegations in November 2025, but the conversation he had with The New York Times really didn’t go over well.
