Gears of War: E-Day will release in Fall 2026, if one leaker’s information is accurate. Fans of the third-person shooter series have gone without a new mainline game for a long time, with Gears 5 being released in 2019, and only a spin-off and a remake coming out since. The upcoming Gears of War: E-Day will finally break that dry spell, and now there may be a more specific release window to look forward to.
The Coalition first announced E-Day in 2024, an entire year before Gears of War: Reloaded would launch. Despite having all of that time to reveal more, Gears of War: E-Day has been largely silent, especially in recent months. Rumors have abounded, but official details have been scarce. Thankfully, that silence will come to an end before too long, but a leaker may have just beaten Xbox to the punch.
Gears of War: E-Day’s Focus on Kalona Makes It Sound Even More Like a Horror Game
Gears of War: E-Day is taking the fight against the Locust Horde strictly to Kalona, opening the door to even more horror than anticipated.
Leaker Says Gears of War: E-Day Will Release in September 2026
TheGhostOfHope, who’s most known for Call of Duty leaks, casually leaked that E-Day would launch in September of this year while responding to another user about the rumored Modern Warfare 4. While they didn’t technically mention E-Day by name, only referring to Gears in general, this release window almost certainly applies to the prequel in light of how the series has no other confirmed games at the moment. If true, it would also be a slight departure from some fans’ expectations. Some have pointed out that November would be perfect for a Gears of War: E-Day release, as the month will mark the franchise’s 20th anniversary. Of course, November 2026 is also Halo‘s 25th anniversary, so there could be reason to bump up E-Day‘s launch.
The brief comment may also lend credibility to other leaks. Hope’s statement about E-Day launching in September came as part of an explanation why MW4 wouldn’t come out that month. This is in line with another leaker’s claim that Modern Warfare 4 will come out in October instead of in November, as Black Ops 7 did. If all of these rumors are true, then Fall 2026 could have a strong release schedule, with Gears of War: E-Day potentially coming out one month before Modern Warfare 4, which in turn would be a month ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6. Outside GTA 6, though, all of these claims are unconfirmed for now.
Unofficial though it may be, the leaked release window is likely welcome news for fans starved for information. Even with the lack of news from Xbox or The Coalition, Gears of War: E-Day is one of the most anticipated games of 2026, so hearing anything about it is a relief. Some may have been hoping for a release earlier in the calendar than September, but that window is a nice surprise for anyone who was expecting a November launch. As with all leaks, this timeline shouldn’t be taken as gospel, but TheGhostOfHope does have a fairly strong track record.

For those waiting for official news before setting any expectations, the wait won’t be too long. Xbox has confirmed there will be a special Gears of War: E-Day Direct in June during the Xbox Games Showcase. The silence is finally coming to an end, and a release may be less than half a year away.
