LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has leaked early for some Xbox users. First announced in August 2025, the game may not have had the longest wait before release, but it’s gotten fans excited nonetheless, as it looks like it could take both the LEGO and Batman gaming franchises to new heights. Some lucky fans will get to find out for themselves a little early, now that some LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight copies are already fully playable.

While delays and long waits are common, Legacy of the Dark Knight‘s launch got moved up a week early, just two months before its original release date. The game is now set to come out on May 22, 2026, and much of the news around development has been positive, so it was looking like the new LEGO Batman title was setting up for a strong start. Unfortunately for TT Games and Warner Bros., but fortunately for some fans, there has been one small but impactful slip-up mere weeks before release.

Should You Buy LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight? Editions, Early Access & Release Date

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight releases May 22, but Deluxe Edition early access and the Switch 2 version complicate buying choices.

Some LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Pre-Orders Are Already Playable

On May 10, Redditor Dramatic-Track-9935 shared that when they pre-ordered Legacy of the Dark Knight from Walmart, they instantly received the code and were able to download and play the game. Naturally, others quickly tried to take advantage of the same glitch, and so far, it’s worked for many of them. TT Games did recently announce that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has gone gold, so it’s not surprising to hear that the current iteration of the game runs well, but being downloadable and accessible almost two weeks ahead of the planned launch is quite the bug.

One user who commented on Dramatic-Track-9935’s post noted that while they were able to download and play Legacy of the Dark Knight, it did notify them about a required update being available. This patch is likely a response from TT Games to cut off access to the game, so the company may have plugged this leak, and anyone who already downloaded it will likely have to play offline until launch day. So, these lucky few gamers may not be able to experience all of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight‘s features, but most would probably agree that’s a fair trade-off.

It doesn’t sound like this glitch applied to all versions of Legacy of the Dark Knight. The OP and the others who emulated them all got pre-ordered standard digital editions of the game from Walmart, so it’s unclear if the same method worked on other platforms or through different sources. Even if it was, though, it may not work anymore on any front, given the note some users saw about a mandatory update. However, there is still a way to play it a bit early. The Deluxe Edition of Legacy of the Dark Knight comes with a 72-hour early access period, and that method comes with TT Games’ blessing, so there’s no need to disconnect users’ consoles from the internet just to be safe.

LEGO Batman is not the first game to leak early over the weekend. A faulty Steam update accidentally leaked Forza Horizon 6 without any encryption, and it didn’t take long for dataminers to get a playable build up and running from these files. It’s been a rough couple of days for games with upcoming releases, but anyone holding out for a full legitimate launch won’t have to wait long, either.
