A skilled LEGO fan manages to build a custom MOC (My Own Creation) Caterpie from the Pokemon series entirely from scratch, with no specific set used, and it looks better than most of the newly released and leaked LEGO Pokemon sets. The collaboration between LEGO and Pokemon certainly didn’t go unnoticed, as the first few sets that were released on Pokemon Day immediately sold out on pre-order, and some even tried to resell them for much more on third-party sites. There will be more LEGO Pokemon sets coming this year, with several Smart Play sets included.

As much as the collaboration has proven to be successful, the LEGO Pokemon sets for 2026 may not be for everyone because of the many Smart Play sets shown in leaks, with Smart Bricks increasing the price of any set they’re in, and the fact that some of the Pokemon arguably don’t look very good. Some fans were very unhappy with the Pikachu and Poke Ball set on launch, stating that the series mascot didn’t look right, and some of the upcoming sets this summer may suffer from the same issue. Enter fan-made builds, which are not restricted by piece counts or Smart Bricks, and fans have some compelling ones to put together.

An expert LEGO builder manages to transform the iconic 75375 Millennium Falcon set into a Warhammer 40,000 Imperial Battleship without extra bricks.

LEGO Pokemon Caterpie MOC Build

Reddit user and YouTube content creator hachiroku24 shared a post on the LEGO subreddit to share a custom LEGO Pokemon build for Caterpie, which seems to be on the smaller side, but still sports incredible details both on the Pokemon itself and the base used for it. The MOC build shows a cute, wide-eyed Caterpie on what seems to be tree roots, surrounded by flowers and grass.

This is not a first for hachiroku24, who has a YouTube channel filled with incredible MOC builds, and has shared multiple of them on Reddit over time. Among them are a Magnemite, the same size as the official LEGO Pokemon Eevee set, and even a build of Hornet in Hollow Knight: Silksong. This Caterpie is particularly well done, and it’s not only a faithful recreation of the iconic Gen 1 Bug-type Pokemon, but it’s also proof that LEGO Pokemon sets can be more polished and less blocky than what has been shown so far.

The Pokemon in hachiroku24’s build is looking up, and it’s reminiscent of the old anime scene where Ash’s Caterpie and Pikachu look at the moon, with the former tearing up, dreaming of flying one day. Eventually, it does by evolving, and it and Ash are separated with a teary goodbye after Butterfree falls in love and wants to be free to live with its partner. The Pokemon anime finally reunited Ash and Butterfree 25 years later, creating an equally emotional scene.

Unfortunately, despite many fans of hachiroku24’s work requesting instructions on Rebrickable to recreate the build, they haven’t been shared by the expert builder. In fact, hachiroku24 stated in a reply that they are currently focused on finishing studies for a degree in Physics, which means they are taking a hiatus of a couple of years from LEGO-related content and YouTube. This may sting for those who really wanted to remake this beautiful Caterpie, but hopefully, an original set for this Pokemon is released in the near future. The many LEGO Pokemon leaks for 2026 don’t include one just yet, but it’s unlikely that both Caterpie and Butterfree will be ignored in the long run.
