LEGO Harry Potter fans have a fresh release to look forward to on Friday, October 16, giving them a brand-new way to play one of the most popular LEGO video games. LEGO has enjoyed a great deal of success with Harry Potter and the Wizarding World brand at large, offering a wide selection of sets based on the franchise. There have also been some popular LEGO Harry Potter video game releases over the years that retell Harry’s time at Hogwarts in LEGO form.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 was first released in 2010 and adapts the first four Harry Potter books/movies. A year later, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 hit the market and wrapped up the story. Since then, the two games have been remastered for newer hardware and bundled together as LEGO Harry Potter Collection. LEGO Harry Potter Collection has been released for various platforms, keeping the adventures readily available for fans to play on the latest hardware, and soon it will be making its way somewhere else.

When is the LEGO Harry Potter Collection Switch 2 Release Date?

LEGO Harry Potter Collection will be released for the Nintendo Switch 2 on Friday, October 16. Retailing for $49.99, LEGO Harry Potter Collection on Switch 2 will be the exact same experience content-wise as other versions of the game, though fans may be able to expect graphical and performance improvements when compared to the Switch 1 release. Unfortunately, no upgrade path has been announced for those that already own LEGO Harry Potter Collection on the OG Switch, free or otherwise. If you want to play LEGO Harry Potter Collection on Switch 2, you will have to shell out $49.99.

Who’s That Character?

Since LEGO Harry Potter Collection on Switch 2 is expected to be nearly identical to the Switch 1 release, the lack of an upgrade path isn’t totally surprising. Still, it will no doubt be disappointing for some that own the game on Switch 1 and have since swapped to a Switch 2 and would just prefer to have that version.

In any case, LEGO video game fans on the Switch 2 have been busy as of late. While it released for other platforms earlier in the year, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight just recently released for Switch 2. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is an open world LEGO game that combines all kinds of different interpretations of Batman and his supporting cast to create a unique new take on the character and his world. It also borrows heavily form Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham games, especially with its combat. Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has earned mostly positive reviews and has been hailed as one of the better games from developer Traveller’s Tales to date.

While LEGO Harry Potter Collection‘s Switch 2 port is new, it’s been 15 years since fans have been treated to a truly brand-new LEGO Harry Potter game on home consoles (not counting the LEGO Dimensions Harry Potter content, of course). With Traveller’s Tales revisiting Star Wars in 2022 and Batman in 2026, perhaps Harry Potter will be what it tackles next. Time will tell, but for now, fans of the developer’s games can look forward to revisiting LEGO Harry Potter Collection on Switch 2 come October 16.
