The development studio behind the storied Like a Dragon franchise has urged fans to tune in on April 1 for a special announcement. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth released back in January to critical acclaim. Joining franchise icon Kazuma Kiryu and upbeat newcomer Ichiban Kasuga, Infinite Wealth is the largest entry in the series yet, boasting new adventures in Hawaii and Japan, and introducing several fresh faces to the already large web of characters.

It’s been quite a busy twelve months for the beloved action series. Just over a year ago, Ryu Ga Gotoku brought Like a Dragon: Ishin to western audiences for the first time as a remake. Later in 2023, in preparation for Infinite Wealth, Ryu Ga Gotoko released Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. Another shorter side story, Gaiden bridged Kiryu’s gap between Yakuza 6 and his appearance in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, leading the way to Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which is considered by some to be one of the best games in the series so far.

The latest title in Sega’s popular Like a Dragon franchise, Infinite Wealth, receives a new patch that adds stability to some of its activities.

Just a couple of months after Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth‘s successful release, it seems Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has more in store for fans. On Twitter, the studio gave notice that it’ll “deliver a lot of information on the latest ‘Ryu ga Gotoku’ goods” next week on April 1. It added that fans may be able to expect some sort of major announcement as well, linking to a pending livestream on its YouTube channel.

Since Ryu Ga Gotoku has rarely ever done story DLC for its Yakuza and Like a Dragon games, and considering how massive Infinite Wealth already is, it wouldn’t make sense for the studio to have story DLC lined up. With the next mainline Like a Dragon title likely several more years away, perhaps RGG Studio has another smaller spin-off game in the works, like Ishin or Gaiden. One fan under the tweet even wished for a third Judgment game with the turn-based RPG combat of the latest installments. Even with many of the Kiryu games having been remade or remastered, there are still several obscure handheld spin-offs from earlier in the franchise’s history that could potentially see modernizations as well. Of course, it’s also entirely possible that this is all leading up to an April Fools joke, so fans should keep their expectations in check.

While it’s completely unknown what RGG Studio is planning to reveal on April 1, it’s clear that with the size of the franchise, all the smaller spin-offs included, there are a lot of possibilities. From potential Infinite Wealth DLC, to remakes to all-new spin-off entries, fans only have to wait a few days to see what’s next for Like a Dragon – assuming this isn’t an April Fools prank, that is.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth builds on its predecessor’s ideas, delivering turn-based combat and a gripping and lengthy narrative led by Ichiban Kasuga. However, the story also brings back Kazuma as a protagonist and introduces a new location in Hawaii, which is a significant departure from the franchise’s previous games.
