Magic: The Gathering is officially making some big changes to its booster packs to kick off 2027, adding the chance for fans to pull extremely rare God Packs from its future sets. Wizards of the Coast has already given fans plenty of teasers about Magic‘s product lineup for 2027.

The beloved trading card game is primed to have an exciting year in 2027, already showing off some of the next year’s expansions. Wizards of the Coast revealed Magic: The Gathering‘s next three in-universe sets during MagicCon Amsterdam, with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, Kamigawa Titanbreach, and Zhalfir all debuting during the year. The company also confirmed that three Universes Beyond crossovers will be added to the game in 2027, recently revealing the Marvel-themed Darkhold Destiny set as the first. Wizards of the Coast has also confirmed that 2027’s sets will feature the potential for exciting new God Packs.

Magic: The Gathering is Adding God Packs

Wizards of the Coast confirmed God Packs are coming to Magic: The Gathering alongside a slew of booster pack changes. God Packs will feature an assortment of the rarest cards from their set, available in both Magic‘s Play Booster Packs and Collector Booster packs, with more than 10 Rare or Mythic cards available from each. Play Booster God Packs will include 10 non-foil Rare or Mythic cards, 2 non-foil Rare or Mythic Booster Fun cards, and 2 foil Booster Fun cards, while Collector Boosters will include 1 foil Land card, 3 foil Rare or Mythic cards, 3 Booster Fun cards, and five foil Booster Fun cards. Magic also confirmed that the ratios for God Packs will be 1-in-1,000 for Play Boosters and 1-in-300 for Collector Boosters.

Magic‘s new God Packs are not the only big changes coming to booster packs in 2027. Wizards of the Coast confirmed that it will officially be removing foil versions of Common and Uncommon cards from Play Booster packs, confirming that packs will no longer include guaranteed foil cards. The company also revealed that its Japan Showcase cards, featuring special art from Japanese artists, will no longer be exclusive to Magic‘s Collector Boosters, with traditional foil versions available from Play Boosters. Magic‘s slew of Booster Pack changes will arrive with the release of Nauctis: The Sunken Realm in February 2027.

The release of Nauctis: The Sunken Realm comes as Magic is entering into a new era for the card game. The launch of Reality Fracture officially concluded a Magic: The Gathering story arc that began in 2023 with the release of the Wilds of Eldraine expansion, culminating in the revelation of Jace’s Echoverse. The story of the set featured the death of beloved character Jace, who was one of the first planeswalkers introduced in Magic: The Gathering‘s Lorwyn expansion in 2007.

Magic: The Gathering will break even more new ground in 2027 aside from its booster pack changes. The previously-mentioned Darkhold Destiny expansion will mark the first time a Universes Beyond set will feature an original story, with Wizards of the Coast collaborating with Marvel using some of the comic book juggernaut’s most iconic characters. Magic: The Gathering is also expected to introduce even more new crossovers to the game, recently revealing Halloween Secret Lairs based on Marvel: Zombies, KPop Demon Hunters, and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. Wizards of the Coast looks to have plenty of new releases to excite Magic fans coming in the near future.
