Over the weekend, a Marathon streamer who goes by NAPainter pulled off the most controversial stunt in the extraction shooter’s two-month-old history. Now Bungie is punishing him with a 30-day ban, and he’s not fighting it. “I am more than ok with this outcome,” he wrote on X. “I made a mistake and did something fucked up. I’m willing to take this.”
Footage of the “most HEINOUS, EVIL, and DISGUSTING thing” NAPainter said he’s ever done in a video game before rippled through the Marathon community earlier this week. It showed him using an out-of-bounds glitch on Cryo Archive to hide in the raid boss room until an enemy team had finished the encounter. Then he ambushed them and took all of their loot.
Cryo Clip of the Week goes to the most HEINOUS, EVIL, and DISGUSTING thing I have EVER done in any video game.
If you can get Out of Bounds and you can get into the Compiler loot room.
And you can just camp in the room for someone do compiler…..and then kill them. pic.twitter.com/OyQIgJWkYM

Bungie later addressed the incident, saying it would patch the exploit before Cryo Archive returned this weekend, as Marathon finishes out its first season. The studio added that it would investigate what happened and clarify the rules on bannable offenses.
Part of that included kicking NAPainter from the game for 30 days, a punishment he detailed on X today after getting permission from Bungie’s community manager. “I received a 1 month suspension from Marathon a couple days ago for ‘deliberately ruining the online experience for others, either by cheating, exploiting a game glitch, or being disruptive,” he wrote. “Let me make this clear. I am more than ok with this outcome. I made a mistake and did something f*cked up. I’m willing to take this. No questions asked. No complaints given.”
With Permission from Cozmo, I am now posting about this.

NAPainter was criticized for his stunt by other plans and admitted back when it happened that he should have revived the enemy team instead of gloating about killing them and taking their stuff. He said he’s since reached out to the players affected, all of whom received make-up reward packages from Bungie, to apologize for how he acted.
“In the mean time I am compiling a large list of every exploit I know exists or theorize to be possible within the game and handing it over to Bungie,” he continued. “It may not be much, but its my first step in making amends to Bungie. To the greater Marathon community, I apologize for how my actions affected the perception of the game as a whole. I love Marathon a lot and the fact I gave the haters more ammunition isn’t something I am proud of.”
