February is quickly coming to an end, and one game is going to be the main closer of the month. Resident Evil: Requiem brings the ninth mainline chapter of the beloved horror franchise front and center. With this being Resident Evil‘s 30th anniversary, a new game felt inevitable. Capcom’s zombie-filled series isn’t the only iconic franchise that’s getting love in the next few weeks, though. Resident Evil might close out February, but two beloved IPs are starting off March with a bang.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered is bringing back one of the best franchises of the early 2000s. The powerful vampire Kain and his lieutenant Raziel are back in action. The original version of Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered was the last main entry in the series, and it’s bound to be one of the most nostalgic releases of the year. That isn’t all, though. A brand-new Scott Pilgrim game also makes its debut. Scott Pilgrim EX is another brawler inspired by the music-centric comic series. Both titles are set to launch on March 3. They may be worlds apart in terms of genres, but they share the common trait of being iconic, nostalgia-filled franchises.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered Brings a Long-Gone Vampire Franchise Back From the Dead
- Available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC
Back in 2024, Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered brought two of the franchise’s entries back into the spotlight, but Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered is a special chapter because of its dual protagonists. Kain is the main antagonist throughout Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2, but Legacy of Kain: Defiance lets players take control of both Raziel and Kain. After following the tension between these characters over the course of the Legacy of Kain franchise, getting to see their stories intertwine and come to a head in Defiance was a bold and fun way to clouse out the story. Now that Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered is giving the game a fresh coat of paint, it’s pretty exciting to see how great the game looks in the reveal trailer. Remasters can sometimes take the original charm out of a game, but Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered pretty much looks the exact same, just with much better quality.

Every Game in the Legacy of Kain Series
- Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
- Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
- Soul Reaver 2
- Blood Omen 2
- Legacy of Kain: Defiance
It’s unclear if Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and its sequel will get remasters down the road, but three out of five is still plenty to introduce the series to a fresh audience. That’s another reason why Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered is such a pleasant surprise. There are now tons of gamers who weren’t even alive when Legacy of Kain: Defiance came out, so the release of this remaster can also put a classic in front of younger gamers who may have never even heard of the Legacy of Kain games.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered isn’t the only Legacy of Kain game releasing in March. Legacy of Kain: Ascendance is a 2D side-scroller that launches on March 31.
Scott Pilgrim EX Brings the Fight Back to the Mysterious Land of Toronto, Canada
- Available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC
The mean streets of Toronto are back in the spotlight with Scott Pilgrim EX. Scott Pilgrim may not have started as a video game franchise, but it’s proven to be a wonderful foundation to build fun co-op brawlers on. 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game is a classic brawler that’s steeped in cheeky references and the series’ signature brand of humor. In Scott Pilgrim EX, the Vegans, the Robots, and the Demons have taken over Toronto, with the three rival gangs wreaking havoc across the city. Ahead of Scott Pilgrim EX‘s release date, developer Tribute Games has already confirmed a lot of exciting features to expect at launch.
Every Playable Character and Feature Confirmed For Scott Pilgrim EX
- Seven playable characters
- New music from Anamanaguchi
- Four-player co-op
- Fighter customization
- Chaotic melee combat
- Story written by series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley
So far, Tribute Games has revealed the identities of six of the seven playable characters. The roster includes Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Lucas Lee, Matthew Patel, Roxie Richter, and Robot-01. Once March 3 is here, it will be exciting to see who the secret seventh character is in the lineup. Scott Pilgrim‘s characters are the ultimate heart of the story, so there are a lot of possibilities for character number seven.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game has been one of the best brawler games of the past two decades, so Scott Pilgrim EX has a lot of expectations to live up to. It’s going to be interesting to see how Scott Pilgrim EX stacks up against the franchise’s first fighting title, but it’s already looking like a promising successor. There are plenty of great co-op fighting games out there, but Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game is still a standout in terms of simply having fun. So, for gamers who have been looking for a fun-loving fighting game to play with friends, Scott Pilgrim EX is bound to replicate that same satisfying co-op formula. Also, if you can get a four-player team together, things can quickly get crazy in a wonderfully chaotic way.
March 3 Is An Exciting Time For Two Very Different Types of Gamer
Of course, there is bound to be some overlap. Just because someone’s a Legacy of Kain: Defiance fan doesn’t mean that they aren’t also a Scott Pilgrim lover. However, the two genres and overall vibes of the games are incredibly different. Whether one’s a longtime gamer who has fond memories of playing the Legacy of Kain franchise, loves the Scott Pilgrim series, or both, March 3 is a day that many are going to want to mark on their calendars.
Dark fantasy vampire games and flashy alt-music-fueled quippy humor rarely go hand-in-hand, but the beginning of March puts both in the spotlight. It’s a really fun contrast that serves as a reminder of how special these two franchises have been to people over the years. February may feel like it’s ending just as soon as it started, but there are at least two great icons waiting around the corner.
