Out of all the upcoming Marvel games, Marvel’s Wolverine has the potential to be the most intense given the character’s history of grisly battles and a healing factor that can repair even the most severe injuries. This aspect of Logan should make Marvel’s Wolverine a much more mature experience compared to Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles, but it could also provide the game with the perfect excuse to include one of Stellar Blade‘s most viral features. Like Stellar Blade, Wolverine could greatly benefit from having its own version of EVE’s Skin Suit costume that lets players play on hard mode when they wear it.

Although some of Insomniac’s in-development footage of Marvel’s Wolverine was leaked back in December 2023, the game is likely still a ways from release and will see changes in that time. This development time also gives Insomniac a chance to incorporate successful mechanics from other recent titles like Stellar Blade into Marvel’s Wolverine as they are appropriate. With this in mind, Insomniac should follow in the footsteps of Stellar Blade and the popularity of EVE’s Skin Suit cosmetic and apply a similar mechanic to Wolverine, but perhaps not in the way players might expect.

If Spider-Man is any indication, Insomniac could be looking into a specific era of Wolverine to gain inspiration for the game’s story.

Marvel’s Wolverine Needs its Own Version of Stellar Blade’s ‘Skin Suit’

A nice detail included in Stellar Blade is the option to change EVE’s outfit via unlockable suits. However, one of the most popular outfits EVE can wear is the eye-catching Skin Suit, which is not unlocked by finding it within the game’s world or purchased from a vendor, but simply requires players to unequip whatever outfit EVE is currently wearing. While the design of the Skin Suit in Stellar Blade might look scandalous, it comes with the major drawback of disabling EVE’s shield, meaning players will be far more vulnerable to damage should they choose this cosmetic option.

Given Insomniac’s history with tons of unlockable suits across its Spider-Man titles, it’s very likely that Marvel’s Wolverine will see a similar number of cosmetics for Logan to wear. However, Insomniac could give the character a cosmetic option similar to EVE’s Skin Suit by stripping Logan down to his most bare-bones outfit, in the most literal sense. For Wolverine‘s version of the Skin Suit, Insomniac should let players control Logan as just his Adamantium skeleton, creating both an awesome visual and a more challenging gameplay experience.

How Wolverine’s Adamantium Skeleton Could Work as His Version of EVE’s Skin Suit

One of Wolverine’s most iconic traits is the Adamantium that coats his skeleton as a result of the Weapon X experiment and gives his claws their signature metallic appearance. What some fans may not realize is that Wolverine has appeared as just his bare Adamantium skeleton in the past, during the Civil War storyline when the villain Nitro dropped a bomb on Logan that melted all his flesh from his bones, leaving him as a metallic skeleton. As a reference to this incident, Insomniac should include an option to have Wolverine appear without his skin and simply be a playable skeleton made of Adamantium.

Like Stellar Blade, choosing this cosmetic option could let players access a hard mode that may decrease the overall damage they take, thanks to the durability of Adamantium, but prevents them from healing, since Wolverine’s healing factor would normally repair his body around his skeleton. It’s unclear how much of a role this healing factor will play within the context of Marvel’s Wolverine‘s gameplay, but Insomniac could still use this Adamantium skeleton version of Logan to signify hard mode. With how gruesome Marvel’s Wolverine might potentially be, this cosmetic design seems like it would fit right in from both a visual and gameplay design perspective.
