While exploring Tuchanka in Mass Effect 2, players will come across a vendor named Ratch and his pet varren, Urz. The krogan vendor has a shop called Ratch’s Wares, which has been under attack by Pyjaks. Ratch offers Shepard a discount if they’re able to bring down the Pyjak population near the shop.

This guide will show players how they can get rid of some of Tuchanka’s Pyjak. Not only does this grant Shepard a discount at Ratch’s Wares, but it also gives them access to Pyjak Meat, which has a hidden purpose – here’s everything fans need to know.
How to Complete the Pyjaks Mini-Game on Tuchanka
Once players have obtained the Tuchanka: Killing Pyjaks quests from Ratch, they must go over to the defense cannons next to the Chief Scout. Here, they will gain access to the console that controls the guns, allowing players to help reduce the Pyjak population.
Once players interact with the console, they’ll start the Pyjaks mini-game in Mass Effect 2. This is a simple point-and-shoot game. However, it takes about a second for the gun to charge and fire, meaning gamers have to take into consideration the Pyjak’s speed and the cannon’s trajectory before aiming their shot.
The Pyjaks only run south, so the secret is to aim a bit farther down towards an area before they actually reach it, so when they get there, the cannon will hit them. Thankfully, there is some room for error, as the blast causes an impact capable of killing a nearby Pyjak – it doesn’t have to be a direct hit. There are three waves, and gamers must make sure they take out all the Pyjaks before they run out of ammo or the food stores’ health goes down to zero. Here are the number of Pyjaks in each wave:
- Wave 1 – 12 Pyjaks
- Wave 2 – 15 Pyjaks
- Wave 3 – 18 Pyjaks
Once gamers complete all three waves successfully, they’ll finish Ratch’s quest and gain access to special discounts and a unique item, Pyjak meat.
How to Use Pyjak Meat
According to its description, Pyjak meat is varrens’ favorite food. Before, if players approached Ratch’s varren, Urz, they’d only be able to pet them. However, if they get the Pyjak meat, which costs zero credits, they’ll be able to feed him.
Feeding Urz in Mass Effect 2 causes the creature to trust Shepard, unlocking new interactions. From then on, Urz will always follow Shepard around in this area of Tuchanka. Players can take the varren to the fighting pit, and they will learn Urz is a champion of the sport.
Gamers can now bet 500 credits on or against Urz in the fighting pit. Given the varren’s champion status, it will win most of the fights. If it is beaten, Urz will not die; it will simply despawn until the Shepard returns to Tuchanka.
