Today, during Sony’s first State of Play of 2026, Konami announced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 2, featuring Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
Here’s the announcement trailer fresh from State of Play:
The next part of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Master Collection series is finally bringing MGS4 to PlayStation 5. The collection is launching on August 27 for PS5.
Also included in the upcoming Master Collection Vol 2 is the HD version of MGS Peace Walker, a very good game that more people should play. Unlike MGS4, it has been ported to other platforms, including Xbox 360 and PS3. Still, it’s great to see it make the leap to PS5 alongside MGS4: Guns of the Patriots.
Originally released in 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4 was a PS3 exclusive that took full advantage of Sony’s then-new console. It was the big finale of the series, even if it wasn’t the last game in the franchise. And for nearly 20 years, MGS4 has been trapped on the PS3.
Konami later confirmed in a trailer released after the event that the MGS Master Collection Vol 2 will launch on Xbox Series X/S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC alongside PS5 in August. Yeah folks, MGS4 is coming to an Xbox. We live in wild times.
