Mina the Hollower has officially gone gold, and developer Yacht Club Games announced that the game is now being submitted to its first-party partners. Yacht Club Games is best known as the developer behind Shovel Knight, and Mina the Hollower is the company’s next major release.
While Shovel Knight drew inspiration from the NES era, Mina the Hollower is a throwback to the Game Boy Color. In particular, the game seems to owe a lot to Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. Those two games are held in very high esteem among Nintendo fans, and it remains to be seen whether Yacht Club Games can deliver an experience that lives up to Mina the Hollower‘s inspiration.

Mina the Hollower Finally Goes Gold
In a post on Twitter, Yacht Club Games announced that Mina the Hollower has gone gold, which means development is complete, and the game is now in the submission process. When a game goes gold, it’s up to partners like Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox to make sure it’s ready to be released on their platform. Mina the Hollower has seen multiple delays since it was first announced, but this all means that an end is now in sight. An actual release date has not been announced, but once a game has gone gold, it means the wait won’t be much longer.
Mina the Hollower was first announced in 2022 and is a brand-new property. The game puts players in the role of a mouse named Mina, who has the ability to “hollow” beneath the ground. The gameplay features the same top-down perspective that appears in 2D Zelda games, but Mina has a much different skill set compared to Link. In addition to her ability to dig beneath the ground, she can use weapons like whips and daggers to take down her foes.
A demo for Mina the Hollower was previously released. While it offered a small glimpse at what to expect from the full release, much of the anticipation surrounding the game is owed to something else completely. Shovel Knight was critically-acclaimed upon release, and fans are eager to see if Yacht Club Games can deliver a worthy follow-up. If Mina the Hollower can offer an experience that meets or exceeds the studio’s first game, it would be a huge accomplishment, and it could cement the company’s standing with gamers. There’s a lot hinging on the game’s success, and gamers are hoping that it proves to be something special.

It’s possible Mina the Hollower‘s release date could be announced in a few short weeks. While E3 is a thing of the past, there are still a lot of announcements that happen in June. Summer Game Fest and an Xbox Games Showcase have both been confirmed for that month, and it’s possible there could be a Nintendo Direct or a PlayStation State of Play. A Mina the Hollower release date announcement or shadow drop could conceivably happen during any of those shows. For now, fans will have to wait patiently, knowing that it’s just a matter of time.
