Minecraft is heading back underground for its next game drop, with Mojang officially revealing a new Ice Caves biome filled with frozen hazards and a hostile new zombie variant. Mojang’s Minecraft has recently shifted to smaller game drops released throughout the year, adding more frequent batches of new mobs, blocks, biomes, items, and other features to the enduring sandbox.
Minecraft Is Getting Ice Caves, Frozen Zombies, and More
Mojang officially revealed Ice Caves during Minecraft Live as the centerpiece of the next Minecraft Holiday Drop, though a release date has not yet been announced. The new underground biome will be able to generate ice and calcite alongside icicles hanging from cave ceilings and ice crystals growing from the ground, with the latter producing a soft natural glow throughout the environment. Ice Caves will also introduce a new frozen zombie Minecraft mob variant that can inflict both regular damage and a freezing effect when attacking players. Some of these frozen zombies can also throw ice balls from a distance, giving the new mob a ranged attack that standard zombies never had before.
