Fallout fans on Xbox have a brand-new experience available for them to download right now. The Misery Island mod for Fallout 4 is essentially a brand-new DLC-sized expansion to the base game that adds dozens of hours of new content. With Fallout 5 still unlikely to release for quite some time, lore-friendly story mods for Fallout 4 like Misery Island are the next best thing.

Bethesda recently released an update for Fallout 4‘s Creation storage size that dramatically increased the space available for mods on consoles. Xbox Series X/S players saw their storage space for Creations jump up to a maximum of 100 GB. The result of this update is that more ambitious, larger mods are now available for Xbox players, including the impressive Misery Island mod.

Misery Island is the second part of The Isles Of New England series of mods for Fallout 4. The mod allows players to visit a new map region of islands off of the coast of Massachusetts, where a once thriving vacation destination has fallen into disarray. Exploring Misery Island offers secrets and Easter Eggs referencing the real-world location the mod is based on, including environmental storytelling moments and background development in NPC dialogue.

With two complete, functional settlements and over 20 new locations to explore, Misery Island offers players a ton of new content for Fallout 4 fans itching for a new experience. Players can even try out the new Fallout 4 weapons and armor created specifically for this mod, created with lore-friendly designs in mind. Misery Island can be somewhat difficult based on the player’s level, with the mod’s creators recommending players tackle the island after reaching level 25, but the area is accessible by heading north of the Boston airport in the Commonwealth.

Mods like Misery Island are a great way to get a new Fallout experience for gamers waiting patiently for the next official release. Recent leaks suggest that a Fallout 3 remake is likely to release in 2027, but there is no word yet on when the next brand-new Fallout game will be released. Thanks to the Creation storage expansion update to consoles, Xbox players have a lot more room to enhance their Fallout 4 experience with mods.
