Miyamoto Gives First Look at Link and Zelda for The Legend of Zelda Movie

Filming for The Legend of Zelda movie is underway, and Nintendo representative and game director Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed the first official sneak peek of the film. The Legend of Zelda has become one of the most notable gaming franchises in pop culture, and its expansion into a live-action movie has many curious to see how the series will translate to the big screen.

The Legend of Zelda is far from the only video game that has received a live-action adaptation recently. Between The Witcher, Fallout, The Last of Us, and Minecraft, bringing video games to television and theaters has become a major trend in Hollywood. While it was known that The Legend of Zelda movie was being made, the production’s progress has been mostly kept under wraps–at least, until recently. A few days ago, leaked footage of The Legend of Zelda‘s actors on set hit the internet, and while it was exciting, Shigeru Miyamoto is offering the most intriguing update yet.

The Legend of Zelda Movie Release Date

Miyamoto took to Nintendo’s Twitter page to share three images from The Legend of Zelda movie, showing Link and Zelda in costume, offering the best look fans have seen of the actors in character. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will be taking on the role of Link, and Bo Bragason is playing Zelda. While both are relative newcomers, the two have already racked up several solid acting credits, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth even voicing Pinocchio in 2022’s live-action remake starring Tom Hanks.

When casting for the movie was first announced earlier this year, some vocal fans were upset that Hunter Schafer would not be playing Zelda, but based on the images that Miyamoto has shared, Bragason may be a strong fit for the role. The three images are simple shots of Link and Zelda standing in a large field, but between the costumes and the overall appearance of the actors, the sneak peek holds plenty of classic Legend of Zelda energy.

The movie may still be a long year and a half away at this point, but Miyamoto’s official images are an exciting glimpse into what to expect. Beyond these images, Nintendo is staying very tight-lipped about the project, and for good reason, since there are already high hopes for The Legend of Zelda movie. Taking on such iconic roles is no easy task, but these live-action versions of Link and Zelda have impressed many fans so far.
