A new leak from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 may be teasing an early access perk for the game’s main campaign. On May 28, Infinity Ward finally lifted the curtain on 2026’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, confirming the return to the franchise’s subseries.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will put its focus on the Korean peninsula, with the plot of the game set to center around a “full-scale invasion of South Korea” and featuring the return of Captain Price. Infinity Ward is also making big changes to the franchise’s gameplay with the release of Modern Warfare 4, overhauling movement mechanics, adding the new Apex Attachments, and much more. Now, fans of Call of Duty‘s campaigns may be getting a special perk for pre-ordering the next game.
Players May Get to Try Modern Warfare 4’s Campaign Early
A recent listing on the Xbox Store could be hinting at the addition of an early access period for Modern Warfare 4‘s campaign. The COD page on the Microsoft storefront includes a listing for a Campaign Early Access Pack for Modern Warfare 4. This will likely grant players the ability to try out the main story of Modern Warfare 4 ahead of the game’s full release, potentially even preceding the availability of the game’s multiplayer content. Infinity Ward has not officially announced an early access period for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4‘s campaign.

Infinity Ward has already given fans plenty of reasons to be excited about trying out Modern Warfare 4‘s campaign early. Associate design director Alex Norris teased in an interview that Modern Warfare 4 will have the largest campaign in the history of the subseries. The game is said to heavily emphasize variety within its main story, likely including a wide range of different objectives for players to complete. The studio also focused on how to make classic mission types, like stealth missions and vehicle sequences, feel fresh and not rehash the same formula from past games.
Centering Modern Warfare 4‘s campaign in Korea also reportedly brought several challenges regarding its depiction of North Korea. The country has historically been restrictive with the information it allows to reach Western audiences, with much shrouded in secrecy. Narrative director Jeff Negus even shared that the development team utilized everything from consultations with Korean colleagues to YouTube documentaries when crafting Modern Warfare 4‘s version of North Korea.

The newest Call of Duty entry is also set to make a major change from recent entries in the franchise. Modern Warfare 4 will be the first new game not to release on eighth-generation consoles in more than a decade, skipping the PS4 and Xbox One for the first time since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts. Modern Warfare 4 will also welcome the Call of Duty franchise’s return to Nintendo consoles, with the game launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 at the same time as other platforms. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 looks to be a big step forward for the series, in more ways than one.
